With the major sports leagues suspending operations during these times the NFL will continue their offseason schedule with the upcoming draft. We offer betting tips until the leagues return. Today we look at the best NFL underdog performances the past three seasons. These are angles to consider but not wager blindly when betting the NFL.

The New England Patriots were underdogs once the past three seasons and covered. New England will have a new look at quarterback as Tom Brady leaves in free agency to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Improvement will be needed in the passing game as the team was 25th in completion rate at 60.3%. The current quarterbacks on the roster for the Patriots are second year player Jarrett Stidham and veteran Cody Kessler. Rumors are possible deals by New England for quarterbacks under contract in Andy Dalton or Jacoby Brissett. The defense started well but tailed off later in the season.

There are three more teams the past three seasons covering at least 70% of the time as an underdog. With a bit more sample side of 14 games the Pittsburgh Steelers have covered 11 of those games. Pittsburgh saw their hopes dashed early last season as Ben Roethlisberger suffered an elbow injury that forced him to miss all but the first two games. The veteran quarterback told the media he is healthy and throwing with no pain. Also, vowed that he was in shape. It was the defense that kept the Steelers in the playoff hunt last year as the unit held opponents to 18.9 points per game. They were third against the run. They were underdogs in seven games last year covering five times.

Kansas City Chiefs have been great to bettors as an underdog since 2017 covering seven of nine. Defending Super Bowl champions were second best in the NFL in scoring offense with 29.9 points per game. The defensive improvement in the second half of the season pushed the Chiefs to Super Bowl champions as they landed in the Top Ten in points allowed at 20.2 per game.

Baltimore Ravens covered 10 of 14 in underdog roles. Ravens saw tremendous improvement offensively going to a mobile quarterback full time in Lamar Jackson. They were tops in the NFL in scoring offense pushing across 31.9 points per game. Ravens were underdogs four times last season covering three times. Defensively Baltimore finished third in scoring defense allowing 18.2 points per game. Opponents completed just 58.3% of their passes against the Baltimore good for second best in the league.
