The weather forecast for this 136th Preakness Stakes has come up perfect.
It calls for sunny and clear skies with highs in the 80’s.
The Preakness Stakes is scheduled as the 12th race on the Saturday May 21st Pimlico card.
Play #9 Mucho Macho Man and #11 Animal Kingdom to win.
Mucho Macho Man will have Rajiv Maragh aboard and trained by Kathy Ritvo.
Mucho Macho Man made up a good distance of ground in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago.
This three year old by Macho Uno was trying to chase after a very slow pace up front while trying to maneuver through heavy traffic.
Only horse with legitimate excuse in the Derby.
I expect better placement today much like we saw in his effort in the Risen Star and Remsen.
Animal Kingdom will have Jorge Velazquez in the irons and Graham Motion trains.
Peaking now after producing a solid 103 Beyer in the Kentucky Derby. Now has won two straight races all in graded company.
Has shown the ability to win stalking the early leaders.
Play #9 with #11 with #2 Shackleford in an Exacta Box.
Shackleford will have the services of Jose Castanon and is trained by Dale Romans.
This three year old by Forestry likes the front end I expect him to contend with the early leaders.
With the tight turns of Pimlico I expect Shackleford to be able to maintain his position in this race.
He put up a respectable 97 Beyer his best ever in his fourth place finish at the Kentucky Derby.
Play #9 with #11 with #2 with #14 Mr. Commons in a Trifecta Box.
West coast shipper Mr. Commons connections are Victor Espinoza in the saddle and the trainer is John Shirreffs.
Trainer Shirreffs wouldn’t ship here unless he felt he had a shot in this race.
He is coming off a third place finish in the Santa Anita Derby with and posted a career best 93 Beyer. It was his first ever Graded stakes effort.
Three in the money finishes in his past three races and is fresh for this spot.
Making only his fifth career start. Look for improvement from this one as he has trained well since his Santa Anita Derby effort.
Play #9 with #11 with #2 with #14 with #13 Concealed Identity in a Superfecta Box
It will be Sheldon Russell aboard and Edmond Gaudet trains this three year old Concealed Identity who is by Smarty Jones.
Beyond the four I have pegged in my exotics there really isn’t much to like in the rest of this field.
We are going long with our selection here as we select the horse for course angle here.
Concealed Identity a gelding is coming off two straight wins over this Pimlico dirt surface over two turns.
Was the winner of the Preakness prep Federico Tesio stakes two weeks ago.
His figures don’t put him at the top of this race but will do enough here to get a piece of this superfecta.
