The temperature at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby is forecasted to be a muggy day at 85 degrees. A full field of 20 colts are scheduled to run the classic distance of 1 ¼ mile on the Churchill Downs natural dirt surface. Breeders can breathe a sigh of relief as they are no geldings entered in the field so the Kentucky Derby winner will have the opportunity to produce offspring.
The number six horse Bodemeister was made the 4-1 morning line favorite in the Kentucky Derby. The three year old will be making his fifth start and he was two wins and two seconds with his most notable win coming in the Arkansas Derby back on April 14th. Union Rags opened in the betting as the second favorite at 9/2 odds in the morning line. The undefeated Gemologist is third on the morning line at 6-1 odds at the open.
