Our free horse racing pick on Saturday comes from the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes to be run at Hollywood Park.

The Goodwood will be contested over 1 1/8th of a mile on the Hollywood Park synthetic surface for three year olds and upward.

It is scheduled as the 9th race on today’s Hollywood Park card with a post time of 5:20PM Eastern Time and you can watch it on TVG.

The free pick is playing on the #2 Crown of Thorns to win.

Crown of Thorns is ridden today by Rafael Bejerano and is trained by Richard Mandella.

This five year old two races back finished a nose from victory in the 2009 Breeders Cup sprint.

She rested since that November 2009 effort and returned to the races in the 7 furlong Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar and finished second just a ½ length behind El Brijo.

He produced a solid 106 Brisnet speed figure in that event.

He has a win going two turns in his 7 race career and today marks his second try. This will be Crown of Thorns second race off the layoff.
