Detroit Lions versus New Orleans Saints NBC TV Saturday January 7th 2012 NFL Pro Football Playoff Odds Sports Betting Pick Preview

The Detroit Lions will travel to face Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in an NFC wildcard NFL pro football playoff game on Saturday night in prime time.

Kick off time is set for 8PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC.

The point spread opened up in this NFL game with the home team New Orleans Saints favored by -10 points with an over under hung at 58 points.

Money has shown early on the side of the home team as the New Orleans Saints has been bet up to a -11 point favorite.

The over under has moved up to 59 points.

New Orleans Saints money line bettors will lay -600 odds with the road underdog Detroit Lions returning +480 odds to pull off the upset road win with no need for taking the points.

The Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints met once during the regular season in early December and it was the Saints with the 31-17 home win against the Lions as a -9 point home favorite.

New Orleans jumped out to the 24-7 lead and after the Lions cut it to a seven points deficit it was New Orleans pushing across a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Matthew Stafford countered with 408 passing yards with a touchdown and pick.

Detroit was their own worst enemy with 11 penalties for 107 yards in defeat.

The Lions will travel to New Orleans with a record of 10-6 on the year. The club is 5-3 on the road.

Detroit averages 29 points and 396 yards a game with 95 rushing yards for 4.3 yards a carry.

Defensively the Lions allow 24 points and 367 yards per game. Teams rush for 128 yards against them for 5 yards per rush against average.

The team had their three game win streak snapped last week in their 45-41 road defeat to the Green Bay Packers as a -6 ½ point betting favorite.

Calvin Johnson led Detroit with 11 receptions for 244 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Brandon Pettigrew caught seven balls for 116 yards.

Titus Young had two touchdown catches with his two grabs for 24 yards.

Tight end Tony Scheffler grabbed four balls for 65 yards with a touchdown catch.

Detroit allowed Green Bay 550 yards of offense with 81 yards rushing on 24 carries.

The Lions had three sacks and gave up two red zone touchdowns in the Packers three drives inside the twenty.

Detroit is the sixth seed in the NFC.

With a win the team will travel to face NFC north divisional foes the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon January 15th at 4:30PM Eastern Time in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The New Orleans Saints will host Detroit with a record of 13-3 on the year. The team is a perfect 8-0 at home.

The Saints average 34 points with 467 yards per game with 132 yards rushing for 4.9 yards a carry.

Defensively New Orleans gave up 21 points and 368 yards per game. Teams run for 108 yards against them for 5 yards per rush against average.

The Saints are on an eight game win streak.

With a first round bye a possibility with San Francisco struggling against the Rams the Saints went all out last week and defeated the Carolina Panthers 45-17 as a -7 point betting favorite.

The over under came in at over the closing total of 54 ½ points.

New Orleans was able to gain 617 yards of offense with 208 coming from their run game on 35 carries.

The team allowed no sacks and scored four touchdowns in six appearances inside the red zone.

The team has one turnover and took two away from the Panthers.

Quarterback Drew Brees completed 28 of 35 passes for 389 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

Chris Ivory had 127 rushing yards on 19 carries with a rushing touchdown.

Darren Sproles had six rushes for 40 yards. Sproles caught five passes out of the backfield for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Pierre Thomas chipped in with five runs for 30 yards. Thomas had 36 receiving yards on three pass catches.

When the Saints won their Super Bowl their run game was outstanding. If they get this production they will be a tough out in the playoffs.

Marques Colston led New Orleans with seven receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Tight end Jimmy Graham had eight catches for 97 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Devery Henderson grabbed two balls for 48 yards.

New Orleans allowed the Panthers 301 yards of offense with 164 yards rushing on 24 carries.

The Saints had two sacks and gave up one Carolina touchdown in two tries inside the red zone.

New Orleans is the number three seed in the wildcard playoffs.

With a win against Detroit they will travel to face the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday at 4:30PM Eastern Time with FOX handling the television coverage.
