It will be the first jewel of the Triple Crown when they run the 137th version of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday night.

Post time from Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky is scheduled for 6:24PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC TV.

The winner of the 137th Kentucky Derby is the #16 Animal Kingdom. Running second was #19 Nehro. The third place horse was #13 Mucho Macho Man. Running fourth was the #14 Shackleford

#16 Animal Kingdom paid $43.80 to Win $19.60 to Place and $13.10 to Show.

#19 Nehro paid $8.80 to Place and $6.40 to Show.

#13 Mucho Macho Man paid $7.00 to Show.

The 16-19 Exacta paid $329.80

The 16-19-13 Trifecta paid $3,952.40

The 16-19-13-14 Superfecta paid $24,063.00

A field of 20 three year old colts and geldings were scheduled to run in the Kentucky Derby up until Friday morning.

The field of 20 turned into a field of 19 starters with the scratch of the second favorite in the field in Uncle Mo.

Uncle Mo was the second choice on the morning line at 9-2 odds and was a medical scratch as he was unable to properly heal from a stomach ailment discovered following his third place finish in the Wood Memorial on April 9th.

On paper Uncle Mo was the best horse in this field as he posted the highest Beyer rating at 108 back in his two year old campaign in his win the Breeders Cup Juvenile back in November at Churchill Downs.

With Uncle Mo’s scratch there is now only one horse who has sported a triple digit Beyer figure and that is Soldat who produced a 103 rating over a sloppy track surface at Gulfstream Park in an Allowance event on January 21st.

The Kentucky Derby is scheduled to be run a 1 ¼ mile and will be contested on the dirt surface over Churchill Downs. The purse is $2 million dollars.

The weather forecast for the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville Kentucky calls for a 60% chance of rain.

Scattered showers are forecasted throughout the afternoon with a high of 70 degrees.

Play #15 Midnight Interlude and #19 Nehro to win.

Midnight Interlude is coming off an impressive stretch run in the Santa Anita Derby that led him to victory in that Grade 1 prep back on April 9th.

He faced winners for the first time and improved to a 97 Beyer in that victory with veteran jockey Victor Espinoza aboard.

Espinoza is back on for Midnight Interlude’s Kentucky Derby effort on Saturday.

He is by War Chant and can handle the distance and a huge plus is he is trained by red hot Bob Baffert coming off a Kentucky Derby Oaks victory on Friday afternoon.

Another plus is if the track comes up wet Midnight Interlude owns a victory by margin on a west fast effort on the Santa Anita dirt surface.

He has shown the ability to win out front or coming off the pace.

Nehro sported a great closing kick in the stretch in his second place effort in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on April 16th.

He is by Mineshaft and too should enjoy this route of ground and I love his long strides deep in the stretch.

Nehro is ridden by veteran Cory Nakatani and posted a nice 98 Beyer in the Arkansas Derby.

He has a solid second place effort in the Louisiana Derby on the fast dirt surface of the Fairgrounds back on March 26th.

The race should set up for him nicely with lots of early speed in this field.

Play #15 with #19 with #8 Dialed In in an Exacta Box.

Dialed in will be ridden by Julian Leparoux and is trained by Nick Zito.

You have to respect his win in the Florida Derby back on April 3rd and Holy Bull Stakes on January 30th all on the fast dirt surface of Gulfstream Park.

Behind the strength of those two wins Dialed In has been made the 4:1 morning line favorite in the Kentucky Derby.

He too should benefit from the fast pace in this race as he likes to make up ground late in his races. The post position should work well for Dialed In in this spot.

Dialed In has three wins and a second in his four lifetime starts. He is well bred by Mineshaft and his granddaddy is AP Indy just like Nehro.

Play #15 with #19 with #8 with #3 Twice the Appeal in a Trifecta Box.

Look who is riding Twice the Appeal. It’s the Churchill Downs specialist Calvin Borel in the irons.

He is another who comes off the pace and with Borel you know he will get a good trip in this race.

Twice the Appeal is coming off a win in the Sunland Derby run in New Mexico back on March 27th in a race competed over the fast dirt surface.

Play #15 with #19 with #8 with #3 with #1 Archarcharch in a Superfecta Box

Archarcharch is ridden by Jon Court. He is coming off a win in the Arkansas Derby on April 16th at Oaklawn Park’s fast dirt surface.

He gets the unlucky post number one in this race and will have to take back early.

This one will be too far back and may run into traffic issues on the rail but will have enough run late to pass the tiring rabbits up front to get a piece of the exotics.
