It’s the Big 12 conference championship game pitting the Nebraska Cornhuskers taking on the Oklahoma Sooners in a college football contest in prime time on Saturday night.

Kick off time from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas is scheduled for 8PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ABC.

The betting odds opened up with the Oklahoma Sooners favored by -2 ½ points with the over under hung at 54 points.

These two Big 12 clubs last met in the regular season in 2009 and it was the Nebraska Cornhuskers with the 10-3 victory against the Oklahoma Sooners as a -4 ½ point home favorite. The game went well under the closing total of 41 points.

Nebraska posted only 180 yards all game with just a miserable 1 of 14 conversions on third down. The team ran it 43 times for 141 yards for a 3.3 yards per rush average.

Oklahoma gave away the game with 5 turnovers in defeat and took only 1 away from Nebraska. The Sooners produced 325 yards and just 5 of 18 on third down. Nebraska enters the Big 12 conference title game with a record of 10-2 on the season. The team averages 33 points and 424 yards per game.

The Cornhuskers two losses this season came in a 20-13 home defeat to Texas as a -10 point favorite and two weeks ago in a 9-6 loss at Texas A&M as a -1 ½ point road favorite.

They had a rather weak non conference schedule with their most notable victory coming at Washington winning 56-21 as a -3 point road favorite.

They are coming off a 45-17 home victory last week against Colorado as a -17 ½ point favorite to clinch a berth into the Big 12 championship.

The team put up 407 yards and converted on 11 of 17 on third down. Nebraska ran well in victory with 265 yards on 59 carries for a 4 ½ yards per rush average. The Cornhuskers survived 8 penalties for 79 yards.

Quarterback Cody Green completed 10 of 13 passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Lee saw some work and hit on 3 of 4 passes for 32 yards.

Starting quarterback Taylor Martinez missed the game with an ankle injury and his status has been listed as questionable against Oklahoma.

Running back Roy Helu ran 15 times for 77 yards. Rex Burkhead contributed with 19 rushes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Wide out Brandon Kinnie led the team with 4 catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Leading wide receiver Niles Paul is sporting a foot injury and has been listed as questionable for Saturday’s game.

The Nebraska defense allows its opponents 16 points and 291 yards per game.

The team gave up only 262 yards to Colorado last week and just 2 of 10 on third down. Nebraska in pass defense allowed the opposing signal caller to complete just 10 of 26 passes for 163 yards with two touchdowns and two picks. The Cornhuskers allowed their Big 12 conference opponent 99 yards rushing on 23 carries for a 4.3 yards per rush average.

DeMarco Murray ran it 20 times for 80 yards. Roy Finch contributed with 16 rushes for 42 yards.

Wide out Cameron Kenny led the team with 6 catches for 141 yards with two scores. James Hanna caught 4 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Ryan Broyles chipped in with 9 receptions for 82 yards and a score.

On defense the Sooners allow their opponents 22 points and 369 yards per game.

The team allowed the Cowboys last week 379 yards and just 5 of 15 on third down. The Sooners gave up 122 rushing yards on 23 carries for nearly 5 ½ yards per rush. Oklahoma allowed the opposing quarterback to hit on 28 of 43 passes for 257 yards with two scores and 3 interceptions.

Bottom line for Oklahoma’s win was getting off the field on third down.
