Laurence Maroney starts at running back and the veteran produced a 3.9 yards per carry last year on 757 yards and 9 touchdowns. The Patriots back up Maroney with capable back ups in Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor.

Defensively the Patriots went to a youth movement. The club was 11th in total defense last year allowing 320 yards per game. New England will need to generate a better pass rush as they produced only 31 sacks last year which ranked 23rd in the league.
