In their meeting in 2009 it was East Carolina with the 44-17 road victory as 4 ½ point favorites.

Tulsa will return 9 offensive starters and 5 to their defense in the upcoming season. The club finished off 2009 with a disappointing 5-7 record and failed to make a bowl game for the first time since the 2004 season.

Junior quarterback GJ Kinne returns following a 2009 where he completed 60.9% of his passes for 2732 yards 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Kinne is a dual threat quarterback as he led the Golden Hurricane in rushing with 711 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Running backs Jamad Williams and Charles Clay return for the team. Clay had 7 rushing touchdowns last season.

The Golden Hurricane returns their top receiver from a year ago as junior Damris Johnson had 78 catches for a 14.5 yards per catch average and 3 touchdowns. Halfback Charles Clay is a force out of the backfield with 39 catches with a 13.5 yards per reception average and 5 touchdowns in 2009.

Tulsa averaged 29 points and 410 offensive yards a year ago. They had a leaky defense allowing 27 points and 397 yards per game. Opposing running backs averaged 3.9 yards per rush against Tulsa.

East Carolina first year head coach Ruffin McNeill has big shoes to fill as former head coach Skip Holtz produced 3 straight bowl appearances for the school.

The Pirates return only 5 starters to their offense and 2 to their defense this season. The club finished 2009 with a 9-5 record and lost in their bowl game to Arkansas 20-17 as a 7 ½ point underdog.

The team will break in a new starting quarterback as junior Dominique Davis lines up under center. In very limited action last season Davis hit on just 5 of 7 passing for 61 yards.

With the teams two top rushers gone the team will return running back Giavanni Ruffin to the backfield. The ball carrier produced 332 yards on 84 carries and 5 touchdowns in 2009.

Good news for East Carolina in their receiver position as their top 2 are back in 2010. Senior Dwayne Harris and junior Darryl Freeney combined for 131 catches and 10 toucdowns a year ago.
