Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen is clearly on the hot seat as he faces his tenth year at the helm. The team returns 7 starters to the offense and only 5 on defense.

The team finished off play in 2009 with a poor 2-10 record and failed to make a bowl game for the first time in three seasons.

With 2009 starting quarterback Chris Turner out of eligibility it will be junior QB Jamarr Robinson under center.

Robinson saw limited work in his sophomore season and completed 46 of 85 passes for 459 yards two touchdowns and no picks.

The team returns its top two ball carriers in senior Da’Rel Scott and junior Devin Meggett. Scott led the club with a 5.0 yards a carry average on 85 carries with 4 touchdowns. Meggett rushed for 6 touchdowns in his sophomore season.

The teams top 4 pass catchers are back in 2010. Junior wide out Torrey Smith caught 61 passes for 5 touchdowns and a pretty good 13.5 yards per reception average to lead the team. Senior Adrian Cannon was the teams second receiver in 2009 with 44 catches and 4 touchdowns.

Maryland averaged just 21 points and 316 offensive yards last season. Their defense gave up 31 points and 396 yards. The 31 points allowed by the Terrapin defense last season was 9 points worse than they allowed in 2008. Opposing running backs averaged 3.9 yards per carry and Navy is a run team.

Navy brings back 7 starters to their offense and 5 to the defense. The team is coming off a nice 10-4 season in 2009 that culminated in a 35-13 victory in their bowl game against Missouri.

Senior quarterback Ricky Dobbs is back under center for the Midshipmen. Dobbs was the leading rusher for Navy with 1367 yards on 315 carries and 27 touchdowns. He hit on 53.3% of his passes for 1031 yards with 6 touchdowns and 3 picks.

All 6 of the top 6 Navy ball carriers return this season and are led by senior running back Vince Murray who rushed for 972 yards on 182 carries and 6 touchdowns in 2009. Junior Marcus Curry had a solid sophomore season with a very good 7.3 yards per carry average.

The team lines up seniors out wide in Mick Schupp and Greg Jones.

Navy averaged 28 points and 356 offensive yards led by 280 rushing yards per game in 2009. The defense was solid allowing just 19 points and 335 yards a game.
