It will be a PAC 10 versus Mountain West showdown when the Washington Huskies pay a visit to the BYU Cougars in a college football game on Saturday afternoon.
Kick off time from BYU is scheduled for 7PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by CBS College Sports Television.
The LVSC college football odds makers set the betting line in this game and it was the home team BYU Cougars opening up as 3 point favorites with the total of 56.
The money has come early on the side of the underdog as the BYU Cougars fell under the key number to 2 ½ point favorites. The total moved upward to 56 ½ points.
Money line bettors playing on the side of the BYU Cougars will lay -155 odds with the road underdog Washington Huskies returning +135 to pull off the upset victory without the points on their side.
The Huskies will return 10 starters to their offense and 6 to their defense in 2010. The team is coming off a 5-7 year and missed a bowl game for an unbelievable 8th straight season.
In his first season head coach Steve Sarkisian brought respectability back to the program with a 5 game improvement from the teams 0-12 season in 2008.
These teams met in 2008 at Washington and it was BYU pulling out the 28-27 victory as an 8 ½ point underdog.
The team returns senior quarterback and NFL prospect Jake Locker under center. Locker finally had a healthy year as in his early years with the program he was plagued with injury problems. This was due in part for his knack to run the ball way too much against the speed of the PAC 10 defense and often tangling in violent open field collisions.
Locker in 2009 completed 58.4% of his passes for 2800 yards 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
The team returns their top running back in 2010 as Chris Polk rushed for 1189 yards on 226 carries and 5 touchdowns.
The teams 7 top pass catchers from 2009 are back in 2010. When they go to three receivers will you find sophomore James Johnson, junior Devin Aguilar and junior Jermaine Kearse out wide. Kearse is a big play guy with 50 catches with an outstanding 17.3 yards per catch average and 8 touchdowns. But Devin Aguilar is a gutsy receiver that drives opponents crazy with his knack to make the tough over the middle catches in traffic to extend drives despite taking vicious hits.
Washington averaged 26 points and 375 offensive yards per game in 2009. Their defense struggled early on allowing 27 points and 389 yards per game. The team improved greatly in their final two games allowing just 10 points combined to their opponents.
BYU faces a 2010 with only 6 starters returning on offense and 6 to their defense. They finished play in 2009 with an 11-2 record and defeated Oregon St 44-20 in their bowl game. BYU had a very high profile game to start the year and defeated Oklahoma in a game played in Big 12 territory in Arlington Texas 14-13 as a 23 point underdog.
The team has huge shoes to fill as 2009 starting quarterback Max Hall exits the program. The team has no #1 starter as head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced that the battle for number one ended in a tie. Both freshman Jake Heaps and junior Riley Nelson will see action under center on Saturday. Nelson will get the start and the signal caller in very limited action completed just 7 of 10 passes last season for 99 yards and 1 touchdown.
The club must replace their starting running back as senior back Harvey Unga was kicked off the team. Junior Brian Kariya had 55 rushes in 2009 for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. Junior J.J. Di Luigi rushed 45 times for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Leading wide receiver Dennis Pitta is out of eligibility and his 66 catches for 829 yards and 9 touchdowns must be replaced. Junior McKay Jacobson and junior O’Neill Chambers will start out wide. The duo combined for 55 catches and 5 touchdowns in 2009.
BYU averaged 36 points and 427 offensive yards in 2009. Their defense was solid allowing opponents only 22 points and 329 yards per game.
