Starting quarterback senior Greg McElroy returns for the Crimson Tide. In 2009 McElroy completed 60.9% of his passes for 2509 yards 17 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
Heisman trophy winning running back Mark Ingram returns for his junior season after 1678 yards on 271 carries and 17 touchdowns last season. Ingram underwent knee surgery and is out for this game with the San Jose St Spartans. His backup is sophomore running back Trent Richardson who rushed for 784 yards on 145 carries with 8 touchdowns and a very good 5.2 yards per carry average.
The Crimson Tide’s top two receivers are back in junior Julio Jones and junior Marquis Maze. Jones had 43 catches and 4 touchdowns with a 13.9 yards per catch average. Maze with 31 receptions last season had 523 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The club averaged 32 points and 403 offensive yards last season. On the defensive side the Crimson Tide only allowed 12 points per game and only 245 yards.
