Arizona began their 2010 preseason campaign by posting the 19-16 victory at home against the Houston Texans. The score was not indicative of the play for the Cardinals starters and second string as Arizona scored all 19 points in the fourth quarter with 3rd and fourth stringers in for both sides.

Matt Leinart started and completed 6 of 7 passes for 49 yards but no touchdowns and picks. He was relieved by newly acquired backup Derek Anderson and the former Cleveland Brown completed 13 of 22 for 88 yards a touchdown and 2 picks. Fifth round draft pick John Skelton from Fordham finished off play completing 5 of 6 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Max Hall from BYU may get a look on Monday night to vie for the third spot on the club.

Second year running back Beanie Wells saw significant work last week rushing for 36 yards on 11 carries. Tim Hightower had 4 carries for 16 yards.

Rookie wide receiver Max Komar from Idaho had 2 catches for 42 yards last week.

The Cardinals defense forced three Texans field goals and shutting out the Texas in the red zone as Houston was 0 of 4. Houston was able to amass 258 passing yards on Arizona as the club saw significant turnover in free agency to their defense during the off season.

Tennessee fell to Seattle last week 20-18 to kick off their preseason play.

Vince Young in limited action completed 5 of 6 passes for 78 yards and an interception. The veteran Chris Simms saw action and completed 7 of 13 for only 24 yards. Rookie Rusty Smith is trying to make the club out of Florida Atlantic and the big 6’5” passer hit on 7 of 14 for 71 yards and an interception.

Second year man Javon Ringer is trying to make his case as Chris Johnson’s backup and the former Michigan St Spartan scampered for 60 yards on 7 carries including a burst for 46 yards. Former troubled Oregon rookie running back LeGarrette Blount debuted with only 4 yards on 5 carries.

The Titans continued to utilize their running backs in their passing game. Nate Washington led the wide outs with 2 catches for 25 yards.

A troubling stat for the Titans defense is they allowed Seattle to convert on 9 of 19 on third downs. The Titans did see some high impact turnover from their defense during the off season with Keith Bullock and Kyle Vanden Bosch both gone from the club.
