The Vikings were successful in their opening preseason game last week with the 28-7 victory against the St Louis Rams.
Sage Rosenfels made a strong case as the backup for Bret Favre by hitting on 23 of 34 passes for 310 yards three touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The huge news this week in Vikings camp was the return of Bret Favre to the club. Favre will not play on Sunday. Tavaris Jackson completed 2 of 4 passes for 11 yards last week. Rookie Joe Webb from UAB mopped up in the fourth quarter last week and he completed 4 of 6 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Second round draft pick running back Toby Gerhart got a good look last week and rushed for only 24 yards on 8 carries.
Tight end Garrett Mills led the Vikings with 4 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown last week. Second year player Marko Mitchell out of Nevada broke a touchdown for 71 yards against the Rams.

Number one quarterback Alex Smith was very poor hitting on just 3 of 9 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. With second year pro Glen Coffee from Alabama heading into retirement it was rookie Anthony Dixon from Mississippi St rushing for 100 yards on 21 carries. Dixon carried Mississippi St’s offense on his back because the team had an inept quarterback and receiving corps. Dixon would have passed Coffee on the depth chart and that may have been the reason behind Coffee quitting.
Rookie tight end Nate Byham a 6th round pick out of Pittsburgh had a solid debut with 3 catches for 52 yards. Six 49ers receivers averaged 13 or more yards per catch last week.
The San Francisco defense stymied the Colts in their regular season meeting last season. Peyton Manning in limited action did complete 9 of 11 passes for 91 yards. Last week they held the Colts to just 235 total yards and picked off 4 passes against the Colts backup quarterbacks.
