The Saints opened up their preseason with a 27-24 defeat at the New England Patriots. New Orleans offense was successful moving the ball on the Patriots defense with 305 total yards for the game.

Drew Brees in limited action completed 9 of 13 passes for 55 yards. Backup Patrick Ramsey relieved Brees and hit on 7 of 11 passes for 111 yards. Second year pro Chase Daniel from Missouri played in the second half and hit on 6 of 9 for 50 yards and an interception. The Saints quarterbacks did not have a touchdown pass.

There is a competition for the Saints third string back between P.J. Hill a second year player from Wisconsin and rookie Chris Ivory from Tiffin University. Hill had just a 3.3 yards per carry average on 9 carries and Ivory 5.0 yards on 6 carries last week.

Second year pro Adrian Arrington had a good game last week with 4 catches for 87 yards including a 51 yard pass reception.

The Saints pass defense struggled last week allowing 5 passing plays to go for 20 or more yards. The Patriots averaged a very high 13.8 yards per reception average against New Orleans.

Houston opened up their preseason play with a 19-16 loss at Arizona last week.

Matt Schaub looked sharp completing 5 of 6 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in limited action. Dan Orlovsky relieved Schaub and completed 12 of 21 last week for 129 yards. Former USC Trojan John David Booty closed out the game with 8 of 12 passing for 59 yards.

Steve Slaton pulled off a disappointing game running the football with only 22 yards on 10 carries. The Texans have been looking for a running game since the franchise began play. Second round pick Ben Tate out of Auburn had only 2 carries for 7 yards. The Texans were hit with a major blow as Tate is out for the season with ankle and leg injuries.

Andre Johnson looked in good form with 3 catches for 59 yards last week at Arizona. Seven Texans receivers averaged 12 yards or more per catch last week.

The Cardinals 19 points last week came in the fourth quarter with third and fourth stringers in the game. The Texans defense held Arizona to just 3 of 10 on third downs.
