The 2009 Philadelphia Eagles concluded regular season play with an 11-5 record and second place in the NFC East.

The team qualified for the playoffs as a wildcard entrant and lost at the hated Dallas Cowboys 34-14.

Having lost three times to their archrival during the 2009 season the Eagles made major changes to the look of their team in 2010.

Traded to Washington is former starting quarterback Donovan McNabb and longtime running back Brian Westbrook was let go in free agency.

In all up to 14 roster players were let go from the 2009 team entering training camp.

The team entered into a youth movement with a league high 13 draft picks in the 2010 draft.

The Odds:

The 2010 Philadelphia Eagles were lined by Bodog sportsbook with a regular season win total of 8 ½ wins with under favored at -140 and the over returning +110.

Bodog sportsbook has the Eagles as 18-1 to win the 2011 Super Bowl, 19-2 to win the NFC Championship and +275 odds to win the NFC East.

2010 Philadelphia Eagles Regular Season Schedule:

Philadelphia competes in the NFC East division so that means two games against the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Washington Redskins.

NFC East division teams are scheduled in the 2010 regular season to face all the teams from the NFC North and AFC South.

The Eagles will host from the NFC North the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings with road games at the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.

Their AFC South schedule will feature home dates to Indianapolis and Houston with road trips at the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.

By finishing in second place in the NFC East the Eagles must face the two other second place teams from NFC divisions so that brings a home game against the Atlanta Falcons and a road game at the San Francisco 49ers.

Philadelphia will make 5 prime time appearances in 2010.

They will host the New York Giants on Sunday Night football and the Houston Texans on a special edition Thursday night telecast on NFL Network. The team will take to the road against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night football and with a road Monday night football game at the Washington Redskins.

Offense:

Fourth year pro Kevin Kolb will start at quarterback for the Eagles in the 2010 season. He takes over for the traded Donovan McNabb after serving as his backup for the past three years. Kolb started in two games for an injured McNabb in week 2 and 3 and ending up with a 1-1 record in those starts.

He started at home against the New Orleans Saints in a week 2 48-22 loss where he hit on 31 of 51 for 391 yards two touchdowns but three interceptions.

His second start was a better one as the QB led the club to a 34-14 home win against the Kansas City Chiefs that saw him complete 24 of 34 for 327 yards two touchdowns and no interceptions.

If Kolb falters as a starter the team can lean on Michael Vick who will play at a backup position. Vick saw limited action in 2009 and ran the wildcat formation for the Eagles. He passed only 13 times last season and completed 6 passes for 86 yards with a touchdown and no interception. In the post season Vick completed a 76 yard touchdown pass in the clubs 34-14 road loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wildcard game.

With the release of Bryan Westbrook more will be asked of second year running back LeSean McCoy. In his rookie season McCoy got 155 carries for 637 yards four touchdowns and a 4.1 yards per carry average.

Running back Mike Bell was signed from New Orleans to backup McCoy this season. The 5 year old back is coming off a season with 654 yards rushing on 172 attempts for a 3.8 yards a carry average and 5 touchdowns. His production really went south down the stretch as he produced no better than 2.1 yards per carry average in 5 of his last 6 games including the post season.

Kevin Kolb will have a solid receiving corps entering the season. DeSean Jackson is coming off an outstanding season with 62 catches for 1156 yards 9 touchdowns and an impressive 18.6 yards per catch average.

Jeremy Maclin starts and he too was good in 2009 with 56 catches for 773 yards four touchdowns and a 13.8 yards per catch average. Jason Avant and Hank Baskett enter training camp as the Eagles #3 and #4 receivers.

Tight end Brent Celek returns following a season where the four year pro caught 76 passes for 971 yards 8 touchdowns and a good 12.8 yards per catch average for his position.

One of the best assistant coaches no one has heard of is Eagles offensive line coach Juan Castillo. He has run the Eagles offensive line since 1999 and has been overshadowed a bit by the success of late defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. The team was hit with many injuries on the offensive line in 2009 but the unit did not crumble. The Eagles were the #5 scoring team in the league last season. Jamaal Jackson returns at center since suffering a late season injury. He may be ready by the start of the season following season ending knee surgery last season. The guards are Todd Herremans and Nick Cole. Jason Peters and Winston Justice man the offensive tackle position.

Defense:

There has been ton of turnover for the Eagles defense the past few seasons. The club finished 12th in total defense but 17th against the pass.

The Eagles run a 4-3 defense. At the tackles will be Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley. Darryl Tapp and Trent Cole are the two defensive ends. The Eagles had 44 sacks a year ago which ranked third in the league. Cole led the club with 12 ½ sacks a year ago. Brandon Graham was drafted by the Eagles in the first round to help out at this critical position.

At linebacker position for the Eagles will be Steward Bradley in the middle with Ernie Sims and Moise Fokou on the outside. Sims was acquired from the Lions in free agency.

The Eagles lost a bit of their identity in the secondary as Lito Shepard, Sheldon Brown and Brian Dawkins left the club the past few seasons. The veteran Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs start at cornerback with Quinton Mikell and Macho Harris at the safeties. Joselio Hanson returns and will see reserve action. The Eagles drafted safety Nate Allen in the second round out of South Florida to provide depth.

And now to my Selection:

The Eagles face a difficult schedule for the debut of Kevin Kolb at the quarterback position. With the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys defense staring Kolb in the face twice in the regular season it could be a bumpy ride for the first year starter against NFC East foes.

Prime time games at San Francisco, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins will be difficult for Kolb. The Eagles first year starting quarterback’s 2 starts came at home. Games against Green Bay, Minnesota and the entire AFC South is no easy road for Kolb’s debut. Kolb goes through growing pains and the Eagles land under 8 ½ win in 2010.

Selection: Play Under 8 ½ wins in 2010 Regular Season.
