It will be Serbia and Australia meeting in final Group D play from World Cup 2010 on Wednesday afternoon.

They start this contest from Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit South Africa at 2:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN2.

The three way betting line saw Serbia favored to win at -115 with the draw second favorite at +250 and for an Australia victory the underdog at +285. The over under came in at 2 ½ goals with under favored at -145 and over the underdog at +125.

The money in this Group D contest came early on a Serbia victory as it returns -120, the draw at +240 and for Australia to pull out the upset win +270. The total saw the early betting come under as is returns -155 and over 2 ½ +125.

Serbia sits third in Group D play with a 1-1-0 record with 3 points and a 0 goal differential with only 1 goal scored in the tournament. Australia sits at the basement of group play with a 0-1-1 record and 1 point with a -4 goal differential and only 1 goal scored.

Serbia opened play in World Cup 2010 with a 1-0 loss to Ghana on June 13th. Then in their second game of the tournament they pulled the 1-0 upset victory against Germany on June 18th.

In the win against Germany it was Serbia posting the only goal in minute 38 by Milan Jovanovic. Serbia played with 1 extra player as Germany’s Miroslav Klose was sent off with a red card in minute 36. Serbia survived a missed penalty kick by Germany’s Lukas Podolski in minute 58.

Serbia controlled the ball 49% of the time and had 3 accurate shots to Germany’s 4.

Australia began play in World Cup 2010 with the 4-0 loss to Germany. Australia then drew 1-1 in their second game in group play.

Australia opened the scoring against Ghana with a goal by Brett Holman in minute 11. Ghana earned the equalizer in minute 25 with a penalty kick by Asamoah Gyan.

Australia played with 1 man down after Harry Kewell was sent off with the red card in minute 24. Australia possessed the ball 50% of the time and had 5 accurate shots on goal to Ghana’s 6.

Ghana owns a goal differential of +1, Germany +3 and Serbia 0 heading in the final group contests. If Ghana loses to Australia and Germany and Serbia tie all four teams in this group will finish with 4 points. Goal differential will be the first tiebreaker and goals scored the second. Ghana has scored 2 goals, Germany 4, Serbia 1 and Australia 1.

With a loss or tie Australia is eliminated.

Australia must win to get to four points and overcome their massive goal differential deficit to make it to the knockout stages. They are 5 goals in differential behind Ghana, 7 behind Germany and 4 behind Serbia.

A win would qualify Serbia for the knockout stages because Ghana and Germany meet and both teams cannot finish each with 6 points.

A tie by Serbia takes them to 4 points and would be eliminated if both Ghana and Germany end in a tie since Germany has a better goal differential than Serbia.

With a Serbia tie and a Germany loss it would be Serbia making the knockout stages.
