The Belmont Park weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms and warm temperatures reaching 87 degrees.
Play #6 Ice Box to win.
Jorge Lezcano will ride and New York based Nick Zito trains this three year old colt out of Pulpit. Ice Box comes in well rested following his closing second place finish in the Kentucky Derby on May 1st. He posted his career best 100 Beyer on that day.
Ice Box prior to his effort at Churchill Downs was a winner by a nose in a closing victory in the Florida Derby contested over a fast Gulfstream Park dirt surface. If it comes fast or sloppy this colt has showed he can handle both track conditions.
Play #6 with #5 Fly Down in an Exacta Box.
Fly Down is ridden by John Velazquez and is trained by Nick Zito. We are going with the Zito exacta in the Belmont Stakes. Fly Down took the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes run at Belmont Park back on May 8th by 6 lengths. He posted a career best 99 Beyer as he closed down the back stretch to position a strong wide move as the horses entered the long straight away in the finish. Velasquez will have him in good position to push Ice Box down the stretch.
Play #6 with #5 with #11 First Dude in a Trifecta Box.
First Dude will have the services of Ramon Dominguez in the saddle and he is trained by Dale Romans. This three year old by Stephen Got Even made a good closing run at Lookin at Lucky in the Preakness three weeks ago going 1 3/16th of a mile in the tight turns of Pimlico Race Track.
First Dude has been in the money in 6 of his 7 career starts. He posted a 101 Beyer in his second place finish in the Preakness Stakes.
Play #6 with #5 with #11 with #4 Drosselmeyer in a Superfecta Box
Jockey Mike Smith will ride Drosselmeyer and the colt is trained by Bill Mott. Drosselmeyer was second in the Dwyer but 6 lengths behind Fly Down. The horse has made the exotics in all 8 starts of his career which included three Grade 2 races.
He broke his maiden over an off track at Churchill Downs so if it comes up sloppy he could handle it.
