The weather forecast calls for sunny skies and no threat of rain. All 12 entrants will be making their first career start over the Pimlico dirt surface in the running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday.
Play #8 Super Saver and #3 Pleasant Prince to win.
Calvin Borel is aboard Super Saver in the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby champ is trained by Todd Pletcher. Have to respect the 104 Beyer this one put up in the Kentucky Derby. He got a good ride from Calvin Borel and avoided any type of trouble. Borel was aboard him three times and earned a win in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club and a second place finish by a neck in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. Super Saver possessed some good front running abilities in his career and he will be in good position to get to the wire first in this race.
Pleasant Prince will have Julian Leparoux aboard and is trained by Wesley Ward. If you throw out this colt’s run on sloppy tracks and synthetic surfaces you see pretty good form over dirt fast tracks. He was second a nose in his latest dirt fast track effort in the Florida Derby just a nose behind Kentucky Derby runner up Ice Box. On that day he posted his best ever 99 Beyer. Off that effort on a dirt fast track this one could be the surprise of the Preakness and could like up the tote board.
Play #8 with #3 with #10 Paddy O’Prado in an Exacta Box.
Paddy O’Prado ran third in the Kentucky Derby some 2 ¾ lengths behind Super Saver. He too has the running style to keep near the leaders and get the minor award for his efforts. He is ridden by Kent Desormeaux and trained by Dale Romans. He posted a career best 100 Beyer two weeks ago in the Kentucky Derby. He will be making his first ever start over a dirt fast track as he has spent most of his racing career running turf races. His two other races over dirt were on sloppy tracks. He has only seen the winners circle once in his career in 7 starts and has two seconds and three third place finishes.
Play #8 with #3 with 10 with #12 Dublin in a Trifecta Box.
Dublin switches riders to Garrett Gomez and is trained by D.Wayne Lucas. He was asked to make up too much ground in the Kentucky Derby. Posted a 97 Beyer in his last start over a dirt fast track in his third place finish in the Arkansas Derby. This one last got his picture taken in the winners circle way back in September of 2009 winning the Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga. In four starts he has posted a second and two thirds in 2010.
Play #8 with #3 with #10 with #12 with #7 Lookin At Lucky in a Superfecta Box
Lookin at Lucky has a rider switch to Matt Garcia and is trained by Bob Baffert. This three year old has not shown enough early speed against top notch company to consider putting on top of this field. I hear nothing but excuses with this colt but the cold hard truth is if you make your living racing in mid pack be prepared for a troubled trip. Was too asked to make up a ton of ground in the Kentucky Derby. Minor award looming.
