The 2010 Masters PGA Golf and Tigers Woods Betting Odds Preview

Tiger Woods will make his much anticipated return to the PGA Tour as he and many of the top golfers will participate in the first major of the year as the Masters tees off on Thursday morning. Television coverage Thursday and Friday will be on ESPN beginning at 4PM Eastern Time with Saturday and Sunday coverage televised by CBS.

The current odds for the 2010 Masters have been posted and Tigers Woods has been listed as the 9-2 favorite to win the Green Jacket. The thirty four year old owns 14 major championships and 4 Masters titles. Tiger last won the Masters tournament in 2005. His last major championship came in the 2008 US Open. This is Tiger Woods first competition since competing in The Presidents Cup back on October 11th. Woods last singles tournament came on September 27th where he finished second in the Tour championship three strokes behind Phil Mickelson. Prior to the Tour it was Tiger winning the BMW Championship with a 19 under par performance and 8 strokes ahead of second place finisher Jim Furyk.

Phil Mickelson has been listed as the second favorite in the betting at 5-1 odds. Lefty owns 3 major championships last winning in 2006. The 2009 Masters Champion Angel Cabrera has been listed as the 50-1 long shot to win the 2010 Masters. Cabrera finished in a three-way tie at the end of 72 holes and needed two playoff holes to complete the victory. The 2009 Masters champion sits 83rd in the 2010 money list with his best placement a 10th place finish back at the SBS Championship on January 10th in Hawaii. The Argentine’s best finish beside his Masters victory came with a 24th place finish at the British Open. The Masters victory was Cabrera’s last victory on tour and he had only 2 other top ten finishes in 2009.

Sergio Garcia is still without a major championship and he is listed as a 28-1 long shot in the Masters betting. The 30 year old Spaniard finished 38th in the 2009 Masters 13 shots behind the winner. His best finish in a 2009 Major was a 10th place finish in the US Open sitting 6 shots behind eventual winner Lucas Glover. Garcia had no wins on tour in 2009. His last win on the PGA Tour came way back at the Booz Allen Classic on June 12th of 2005. Sergio is 41st on the money list in 2010 with his best finish was 4th this season coming at the WGC Accenture Match on February 21st.

Padraig Harrington has been listed as the third favorite in the betting as he is coming in with 12-1 long shot odds. Harrington has two top ten finishes in 2010. He finished third in this years World Golf Championship and was 8th at the Transitions Championship back on March 21st. The 38-year-old Irishmen was 35th in last years Masters. His best finish in last year’s majors was a 10th at the PGA Championship on August 16th. Harrington’s last win on the PGA Tour came in the 2008 PGA Championship. The golfer owns three major titles with two victories at the British Open and his victory at the PGA Championship.

One looking for value in betting a long shot for the Masters might take a look at Anthony Kim who is returning 30-1 odds in the betting. Kim sits 4th on the money list in 2010 as he already owns 1 victory and two top 2 finishes on tour. Kim is coming off a victory in the Shell Houston Open with a playoff victory over Vaughn Taylor for the title. He finished second at the Honda Classic back on March 7th 5 strokes behind eventual winner Camilo Villegas. The 24 year old is looking for his first major title. His best finish in a major was a 7th place result in the 2008 British Open. Kim finished 20th in the 2009 Masters 10 shots behind the eventual winner. Kim was also a victim of a poor start as the golfer began play in the first round with a 75. His next best finish in a Major in 2009 was a 16th place effort in the US Open.
