It will be the Colonial Athletic Association conference tournament final when the William and Mary Tribe do battle with the Old Dominion Monarchs for a spot into the NCAA Tournament. They are meeting in a college basketball game on Monday. They tip off this event in Richmond Virginia at 7PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN.
The LVSC college basketball odds makers have set the opening line in this game and it was Old Dominion Monarchs opening up as a 9 point favorite with the over under coming in at 117 ½.
The early money from the bettors has not moved this point spread and over under, as the Old Dominion Monarchs are currently 9 point betting favorites and the total is lined at 117 ½.
Old Dominion money line supporters will have to lay –500 odds with the underdog Williams and Mary Tribe bringing back +400 to pull off the upset victory without having to take the points.
It will be the third meeting between these conference foes as they battle it out for a spot in the Big Dance. It was Old Dominion with the 58-55 road victory back on January 23rd as a 5 ½ point underdog to Williams and Mary. The squads then met on February 3rd at Old Dominion and the Monarchs laid a 61-42 whipping over the Williams and Mary Tribe as a 12 point betting favorite. A troubling stat for the Tribe is the fact that they were held to a miserable 33.3% shooting in both meetings.
Old Dominion was the regular season CAA conference champions with a 25-8 straight up record and 15-3 versus conference opponents. The team has strung together 4 straight wins including two straight in the Colonial Athletic Association conference tournament. The team opened up play in their conference tournament with an 86-56 mauling of Towson St as 17 ½ point favorites. The Monarchs limited Towson St to just 32.2% shooting. On Sunday in the semifinals it was Old Dominion pulling out the 73-69 overtime win over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams as 2-point favorites. Old Dominion shot the ball very well hitting on over 49% in victory. Senior forward Gerald Lee led the Monarchs with 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the field in the win over the Rams.
William and Mary currently sit at 22-9 overall and 12-6 in CAA conference play. The Tribe made waves early on this season by posting a 78-68 win at Wake Forest and an 83-77 victory at Maryland. The Tribe entered the CAA conference tournament with two straight losses including a bad home loss to lowly Towson St on February 24th. The team earned the 70-65 win in the quarterfinal round of the CAA tournament over James Madison. They were fortunate to earn the victory despite allowing 50% shooting. They drew Northeastern in the semifinals and pulled out the straight up 47-45 victory to earn the bid to the finals. Northeastern was cold from the field hitting only 34%. The Tribe has not shot well hitting no better than 40.4% over their past 5 games. The Tribe will need a better effort from their leading scorer on Monday as David Schneider contributed with only 3 points of 1 of 9 shooting in the teams win in the semifinals.
Trend: William and Mary Tribe is 12-2 to the under in their past 14 games.
