To their credit the Saints have played well defensively limiting three of their four past opponents to 39.1% shooting or worse. Senior forward Alex Franklin has played well averaging over 20 points a game in the MAAC tournament. He has reached the free throw line 27 times in the two games.

Fairfield was the number two seed in the MAAC tournament with a conference record of 13-5 and 22-9 overall. They share a common opponent in Maryland but the Stags were pounded by the Terrapins 71-42 in their third game of the year. Fairfield enters play winners of four straight and 6 of their past 7. They began play in the MAAC tournament with a 67-57 win over Canisius as a 6-point favorite. The Stags followed up that performance with a 69-63 victory over Niagara as a 1-½ point underdog. Fairfield held the Purple Eagles to just 37.3% shooting in victory. Freshman guard Derek Needham has contributed nicely with 46 points combined in both MAAC tournament games.
