Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO Welterweight title with a professional record of 50 wins with three losses and two draws. Thirty-eight of Manny Pacquiao’s wins have come by knockout. He is coming off an impressive TKO victory on November 14th against Miguel Cotto in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada. Prior to that it was a knockout of Ricky Hatton and a TKO victory over the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya, which sent him into retirement. Pacquiao is currently on an 11 fight-winning streak. His last loss was way back in March of 2005 when he lost a decision to Erik Morales in a fight held in the Super Featherweight division.
Joshua Clottey enters his huge test with a professional record of 35 wins, 3 losses and 1 no contest. Twenty of Clottey’s victories have come by knockout. Cottey enters the ring off a loss to Miguel Cotto back on June of 2009. He lost by split decision with 2 judges awarding the fight to Cotto and 1 judge scored it 114-113 in favor of Clottey. In the Cotto fight it was Clottey hitting the canvas for the first time in his career. It was a flash knockdown in the first round and Clottey was quick to get back on his feet. Notable victories for the fighter from Ghana include wins over Zab Judah and the late Diego Corrales.
Manny Pacquiao to his credit picked a fight with a quality opponent following the fiasco in trying to book a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Clottey has never been knocked out in his career and is a very accurate puncher. In his most notable performance it was Joshua Clottey battling Antonio Margarito in December of 2006 and dropping a decision in an exciting fight. It will be interesting to see how Joshua Clottey handles the hand speed and power of the champion Manny Pacquiao. Clottey is a stand up fighter who will look to counter the big shots from Pacquiao. The question in this fight is we know Clottey will connect but will his punches have any effect on the champion Manny Pacquiao?

I can’t see Clottey being dropped in this fight. But at the same time, I feel he HAS to knock out Pacquiao in order to win. The promoters won’t just risk the potential blockbuster fight with Mayweather on the basis of a scorecard decision against Pacquiao.
