The Troy Trojans the Sun Belt Conference champions will face the champions of the MAC Conference the Central Michigan Chippewas in the GMAC Bowl college football game to be played on Wednesday January 6th in prime time. Kick off time in Mobile Alabama is scheduled for 7PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN.

Central Michigan is an explosive offense averaging 33 points per game and ranking 2nd in the MAC conference in total offense averaging 417 yards a game.

On the defensive side of the ball the team surrenders just 17 points a game. They are 7th in the MAC conference against the pass allowing 207 yards through the air per game but have only allowed 11 touchdowns thrown against their defense.

Butch Jones is in his third and last year with Central Michigan. He has been hired to replace Brian Kelly as the Cincinnati Bearcats head coach. He is leading the team to their 3rd bowl game in three years. Central Michigan is 0-2 straight up and 1-1 against the spread in the teams’ two bowl games with Jones at the helm. Central Michigan was defeated by Florida Atlantic in their bowl game last season 24-21 as a 7-point favorite. It will be associate head coach Steve Stripling coaching the Chippewas in this game.

The Troy Trojans completed another successful campaign in the Sun Belt conference finishing with an overall record of 9-3 but a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. The team completed a perfect Sun Belt campaign by winning at Louisiana-Lafayette 48-31. The Trojans in victory were able to produce a balance attack of 220 yards on the ground and 293 through the air in victory. Their only notable victory this season was a 31-7 win over bowl bound Middle Tennessee St. It is worth noting that the Trojans will have a site advantage in this game. The GMAC Bowl is being played in Troy’s home state of Alabama.

Senior quarterback Levi Brown leads a very potent offensive attack. The signal caller is completing 64.7% of his passes with 22 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Offensively the team averages 33 points a game and an amazing average of 478 offensive yards per game. Brown concluded his regular season with a combined 771 yards passing with 6 touchdowns and 2 picks in his final two games. Freshman running back Shawn Southward has contributed well for the team this year on the ground with 5.7 yards a carry average and 10 rushing touchdowns.

Troy suffers a bit from a leaky defense. The team allows an average of 28 points and 417 yards a game. Their weakness is in their pass defense. The Trojans are 9th and last in the Sun Belt conference against the pass allowing an average of 277 yards passing per game and have allowed 28 passing touchdowns.

Head coach Larry Blakeney is in his 20th year as head coach with the team. He is leading the team to their 4th bowl game since the program entered major college football. Troy is 1-2 straight up and against the spread in the three bowl games coached by Larry Blakeney at the school.
