The Dallas Cowboys will travel in NFC East divisional action when they take on the Washington Redskins in an NFL pro football game on Sunday night in prime time. Kick off time in Washington is scheduled for 8:20PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC.
The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the Dallas Cowboys were opened as a 4 ½ point favorite with the over under coming in at 38 ½.
The early money from the NFL betting public has come in on the road favorite, as the Dallas Cowboys have steamed to a 7-point favorite. The total has seen early movement by the bettors toward the over, as the total is currently lined at 42 for the NFL betting public to play into.
NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the favored Dallas Cowboys at –290 with the home underdog Washington Redskins bringing back +240 to pull off the upset win without the need for getting the points on their side.
When these two foes from the NFC East met in their first meeting it was Dallas pulling out a 7-6 victory as a 10-½ point home favorite. Washington quarterback Jason Campbell was able to move the team with 246 yards passing on the Cowboys defense. The Cowboys were able to pull out a victory with a late touchdown pass from Tony Romo in the fourth quarter to erase a 6-0 deficit.
The Cowboys sit with a record of 9-6 on the season and hold a 1 game lead over the New York Giants for a playoff spot. The Cowboys must maintain their lead on the Giants because New York defeated Dallas twice this season to hold the tiebreaker should the teams finished tied. Washington with a record of 4-10 has been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Cowboys are coming off a complete team effort in their 24-17 road victory over previously undefeated New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys defense was outstanding forcing pressure on Drew Brees. They held the Saints to just 3 points over the first three quarters of their game. The Cowboys benefited from three Saints turnovers and held a +3 turnover margin in the game. Tony Romo had a fantastic game hitting on 22 of 34 for 312 yards a touchdown and no interceptions. Romo has not thrown an interception over his past four games. Romo was very sharp driving the team and was good on third downs in a noisy stadium in New Orleans. Running back Marion Barber had 62 yards on 17 carries last week with 2 rushing touchdowns. Barber had a good game in the teams first meeting this season with 99 yards on 20 carries. Defensively the Cowboys allow just 18 points per game. They are 21st against the pass this season allowing 232 passing yards per game.
The Washington Redskins were thoroughly embarrassed last week on Monday Night Football. The New York Giants pounded Washington 45-12 on the road in front of a national television audience. The Redskins have now lost 4 of their past 5 games with their only victory coming at Oakland who had to play JaMarcus Russell in place of an injured Bruce Gradkowski. Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell will get the start on Sunday night. The Redskins offensive line did a poor job of protecting Campbell and the Washington signal caller suffered a stinger in the game. Campbell is hitting on 64% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He was accurate in the teams first meeting with Dallas completing 65% of his passes. With injuries to both starting running backs the Redskins are going with second year back Quinton Ganther at running back. Ganther has not performed well with this opportunity. The former Utah Ute running back only gained 21 yards on 10 carries last week and a mere 50 yards on 14 carries the week prior against a poor Oakland Raiders rush defense. The Redskins secondary was torched last week by Eli Manning as the team allowed 273 passing yards. Redskins head coach Jim Zorn spent the week preparing the Redskins for the Monday Night game against the Giants with rumors about Redskins management interviewing former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan for his head coaching job in the 2010 season. Zorn is rumored out and the effort has gone south.
