The 1-10 Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to NFC South division rival the Carolina Panthers in an NFL football game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in Carolina is scheduled for 1PM Eastern Time with regional television coverage provided by Fox. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the Carolina Panthers opened as a 6 ½ point favorite with the over under coming in at 43. The early money from the NFL betting public has come in on the road team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as the Carolina Panthers are currently a 6-point favorite. The over under has been bet down by the NFL betting public towards the under, as the total is currently lined at 40 for the bettors to play into.
In their first meeting of the season it was the Carolina Panthers defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28-21 as a three-point road favorite. The Panthers were able to survive 2 critical Jake Delhomme interceptions to pull out the victory. The Panthers ran all over the Buccaneers with 267 yards rushing in the game. The Carolina Panthers now have no margin for error. The team once again gave a football game away and the New York Jets were the recipient of the generous 4 turnovers by the Panthers. At 4-7 on the season the Panthers must win 5 straight games to have a realistic shot of being in the mix for a wildcard playoff spot after their 17-6 loss last week at the struggling New York Jets. Starting quarterback Jake Delhomme fractured his finger on his passing hand and is not expected to play. Back up quarterback Matt Moore is expected to start this game. During his career he has hit on 56% of his passes with 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. But one can expect Moore to hand the ball off quite a bit in this game. The Panthers average 151 yards rushing on the season. DeAngelo Williams is averaging 5.2 yards per game this season and Jonathan Stewart at 4.6. Carolina averages 4.8 yards per carry on the ground and ranks third in the NFL. On the defensive side of the ball the Panthers defense has held up well despite an offense coughing up the football. They allow just 181 yards per game through the air ranking third in the league. The Panthers do not give up many big plays allowing 9.9 yards per completed pass. The Buccaneers are coming off a 20-17 loss to the Falcons in the closing seconds. The Falcons were using a backup quarterback for most of the game after Atlanta starting quarterback Matt Ryan left the game with a bad toe. The Buccaneers are going with rookie quarterback Josh Freeman. He is coming off his best performance of the season hitting on 20 of 29 for 250 yards, two touchdowns and no picks. But that was against an awful Falcon secondary and this week he faces the #3 pass defense in the Panthers. Freeman is hitting on 55% of his passes with 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The Buccaneers running game has been below average this season with Cadillac Williams averaging 3.8 yards a carry and Derrick Ward 3.4. The Buccaneers defense has been poor this season allowing 160 yards rushing and 210 through the air, which contributed to a high 28.5 points allowed.
