The San Diego Chargers have been very hot winners of 6 straight games and 1 game ahead of the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. The team is coming off a 43-14 pounding of Kansas City at home last week. The win was significant because the Chargers embarrassed the Chiefs 37-7 back on October 25th. Usually when a team gets blown out against a division foe they usually play more competitive in the second meeting but the Chargers pounded the Chiefs for the second time this season. Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers is going very well right now. He is coming off a 21 of 28 performance last week with 317 yards passing two touchdowns and no picks last week. Rivers has been very accurate hitting on no less than 75% passing accuracy over their past 3 games. The Chargers are still not running very efficiently as LaDainian Tomlinson is averaging just 3.4 yards per game on the ground this season. LT showed some glimpses of coming out of his funk but still had not produced more than 4.0 yards a carry average over his past 7 games. On the defensive side the Chargers allow nearly 20 points per game. Cleveland after their close loss to Detroit two weeks ago fell to division rival the Cincinnati Bengals 16-7 last week. The Browns were terrible offensively with just 58 rushing yards and 111 through the air. After a nice performance against a bad Lions defense, Browns quarterback Brady Quinn could only complete 44% of his passes with no touchdowns last week. Brady has hit on 54% of his passes with 5 touchdowns and 5 picks on the season. If you back out the Lions game the Browns average point total in the past 4 games with Quinn under center has been only 4 points per game. Browns running back Jamal Lewis suffered a concussion in the Bengals game and is likely to miss this game. Lewis’ backup Jerome Harrison is averaging just 3.6 yards a carry this season. On the defensive side the Browns allow 25.4 points per game. With Phillip Rivers under center for the Chargers the Browns will need to be at their best against the pass. The Browns are not very good defending the pass as they allow 232 yards per game and a very high 12.4 yards per completion ranking 29th in the league.
