In their first meeting between these AFC South foes it was the Jacksonville Jaguars posting a 31-24 victory as a 4-point road underdog. The Jaguars ran wild in that game with 184 rushing yards on the Texans defense. Jacksonville sits at 6-5 and returns home after a 20-3 thumping at San Francisco. The Jaguars self destructed in that game with 2 turnovers in the red zone. The Jaguars wasted a 25 of 36 passing effort by David Garrard for 307 yards against the 49ers. Garrard is hitting on 62.6% of his passes this season with 8 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew has missed practice this week with a knee ailment. The four-year pro is averaging 4.8 yards a carry on the season with 18 rushing touchdowns. Jones-Drew has got the bulk of the carries this season with 209 rushes. His backup is Rashad Jennings who has only 26 carries for 4.7 yards per rush average this season. The Jaguars have played well at home, as the team is winners of 4 straight on their home field. On the defensive side the Jaguars allow 23 points per game and are very weak in their secondary. The Jaguars allow 242 yards per game through the air ranking 26th in the NFL. Houston is 5-6 on the season and coming off a gut wrenching 35-27 home loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week. The Texans were up 17-0 in the second quarterback and were outscored 35-10 for a humbling defeat. Matt Schaub passed for 284 yards last week with two touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Schaub is having a good season hitting on 67.8% of his passes with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In the loss to the Jaguars, Schaub was able to pass for 300 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. On the ground Steve Slaton has averaged just 3.3 yards per carry this season. Slaton has seen his carries decrease greatly over the past few weeks due to his ineffective running. Unfortunately Slaton’s back up Chris Brown has not done much better with a 3.6 yards a carry average. On defense the Texans have allowed an average of 22 points per game this season. Houston faces issues against the run this season allowing a very high 4.8 yards per rush attempt which is tied for 32nd and last in the NFL.
