When these teams met last season it was South Florida pulling out a 17-13 victory at home as a 3 point favorite. It was a defensive battle as yards were very hard to come by both teams in that game. Connecticut sits at 6-5 on the season and is not guaranteed of a bowl game at this time. A seventh win would get Connecticut into a bowl game so this contest against South Florida is a meaningful game. You always have to be concerned of the weather in Hartford Connecticut in December and sports bettors need to take note that South Florida comes from a warm climate and most likely will not like cold and bad weather. Note that snow is forecasted on Saturday with temperatures in the mid 30’s by kick off. Connecticut is coming off a 56-31 victory over Syracuse last week. The team was successful on the ground with 204 yards rushing. Quarterback Zach Frazer is hitting on only 52% of his passes with 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Connecticut has been successful running the football behind their twin backs of Jordan Todman and Andre Dixon combining for nearly 5 yards a carry on the season. This two-headed back tandem has looked very good for this Huskies team. A concern for Huskies backers would be the fact the team ranks 8th and last in the Big East conference in total defense allowing 385 yards and 24.8 points per game on the season. South Florida is bowl eligible and pundits have projected the team into the St. Petersburg Bowl against Central Florida. The team is coming off a bad 31-10 home loss to Miami Florida last week. Miami torched the Bulls defense on the ground as the Hurricanes gained 240 yards rushing. Freshman quarterback B.J. Daniels struggled hitting on just 6 of 16 last week for 77 yards in defeat. B.J. Daniels is only hitting on 51.3% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. South Florida are losers of 4 of their past 6 games. On the ground senior quarterback Moise Plancher is averaging 4.6 yards per carry on the season. He has seen his carries increase the past two games and may be used more extensively with possible in climate weather. Both B.J. Daniels and Moise Plancher are from Florida so it’s likely they haven’t played in snow. The Bulls will need to be good against the run and they are not. South Florida is 7th in the Big East in rushing defense allowing 138 yards per game and 3.93 yards per rush attempt.
