In their meeting in the SEC Championship last season it was the Florida Gators defeating the then undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide 31-20 as a 10-point favorite. The Gators defense limited the Crimson Tide to just 136 yards rushing and 187 through the air. It was not a look ahead game last week for the Florida Gators as they pounded the Florida St Seminoles 37-10. It was a thorough domination by the Gators who out gained Florida St 545 yards to 269 in victory. The Gators stormed out to a 30-0 lead and never looked back. Gators quarterback Tim Tebow is hitting on 66% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Since Tebow’s poor game at Mississippi St 6 games back the senior signal caller has not thrown an interception. Tebow has run the ball very effectively the past two games with 192 yards rushing and three touchdowns combined. Tebow has huge weapons in the running game with Jeffery Demps averaging 7.7 yards a carry and Chris Rainey 6.5 yards a rush attempt. Florida is the number one defense in all of college football allowing 233 yards per game and just 9.8 points per game. Arkansas behind Ryan Mallet at quarterback put up the most points on the Gators with 20 points scored on the Gators back on October 17th. Alabama Crimson Tide survived a scare last week beating Auburn 26-21. The team fell behind early in this game 14-0 early but rallied to get the win. Sophomore running back Mark Ingram struggled last week with just 30 yards on 16 carries. Ingram did not practice on Monday sporting a sore hip. Starting quarterback Greg McElroy is hitting on only 60.8% of his passes with 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. McElroy is a pocket passer who has struggled all season with accuracy issues. Against good defensive teams McElroy was only 44% accurate at Mississippi, 50% against Virginia Tech and just 50% against South Carolina. There is a pattern to McElroy’s poor play as it has been all against good defenses. Alabama is third in the nation in defense allowing an average of 235 yards per game.
