The Navy Midshipmen will make a long journey to the Hawaiian Islands to take on the Hawaii Warriors in a college football game on Saturday night. Kick off time in Hawaii is scheduled for 10:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPNU. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the Navy Midshipmen opened as a 9-½ point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has been Hawaii Warriors money, as the Navy Midshipmen are currently an 8-½ point favorite. The over under is currently lined at 54 ½ for the betting public to play into. Navy enters this game with an 8-3 record on the year and have clinched a bowl berth and are headed to the Texas Bowl on December 31st. The team is coming off a bye week and in two weeks will play their archrival the Army Black Knights. They are coming off a win against Delaware two weeks back but the week before it was Navy beating Notre Dame 23-21 It was their second straight win at the Irish home field. Navy runs the option offense and average 282 yards per game on the ground. This years Navy team has an outstanding 4.8 yards per rushing attempt on the season. Junior running back Ricky Dobbs is the teams’ quarterback who has rushed 227 yards with 22 touchdowns and 3.5 yards a carry average. Navy has played good defense this season limiting teams to only 21 points per game and sit 39th in all of college football in total defense allowing just 338 yards per game. Navy will need to be good against the pass against the Warriors and they allow 204 yards per game through the air. Hawaii is 5-6 on the season and must win out to become bowl eligible and play in the Hawaii Bowl. The team not only has to beat Hawaii on Saturday but also must defeat Wisconsin next week at home. The team is coming off an overtime victory last week on the road at San Jose St winning 17-10. Despite over 400 yards of offense the Warriors could only muster 17 points. Sophomore quarterback Bryant Moniz was sidelined last week due to rib problems. Media reports have Moniz healthy and will play on Saturday. Moniz was third on the depth chart during the summer but moved into the starters role after injuries to the quarterback position. Moniz is hitting on 56% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Moniz has averaged over 300 yards passing in his past three games. On the defensive side the Warriors do not see any option offenses playing in the WAC conference. The Warriors will be challenged to stop the run and the team sits 5th in the WAC in rushing defense allowing 188 yards rushing per game and a high 4.75 yards per rush against average.
