The Carolina Panthers will hit the highway to face the New York Jets in an NFL football game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in New York is scheduled for 1PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by Fox. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the New York Jets opened as a 3 point favorite with the over under coming in at 42. The early money from the NFL betting public has not moved the betting line, as the New York Jets are currently a 3 point favorite. The total has seen early action towards the under, as the over under is currently lined at 41 for the bettors to play into. NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the favored New York Jets at –175 with the road underdog Carolina Panthers bringing back +155 to win without the points on their side.
The Jets are struggling big time on the year losers of 6 of their past 7 games. They are coming off a 31-14 loss last week at New England. Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez is having a very poor rookie season hitting on just 52% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Sanchez is coming off a 4-interception game going just 8 of 21 passing. Sanchez has been no accurate than 57% over his past 7 games with 14 interceptions thrown. Teams have adjusted to Sanchez and the rookie has had major problems reading opposing defenses. With Leon Washington out for the year with a broken leg it has been Thomas Jones with increased carries and is averaging 4.6 yards a carry on the season. The Jets will need to be good against the run against the Panthers and the team does well allowing 111 yards a game and just 4.0 yards per rush against average. Carolina owns an identical record as the Jets at 4-6 on the season. The team is coming off a bad 24-17 home loss to the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night football a week ago Thanksgiving. Carolina has ran the ball much better with 182 yards rushing or better in their past 4 games. The Panthers dual backs have got the job done this season as DeAngelo Williams averages 5.4 yards a carry this season and Jonathan Stewart 4.6 per rush attempt. With the emphasis on the running game Jake Delhomme has seen his interceptions decrease. The veteran quarterback has thrown just 1 interception over his past 4 games. Delhomme has been inconsistent this season and is hitting on just 57% of his passes with only 8 passing touchdowns. Delhomme better be accurate with his passes because the Jets have an outstanding secondary that excel at tight pass coverage. The Carolina rush defense has not been good on the season allowing a high 4.7 yards a carry this season.
