The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will travel in Big East conference play when they face the Louisville Cardinals in a college football game on Friday morning. Kick off time in Louisville is scheduled for 11AM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN2. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this contest and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights opened as a 5-point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the home team, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are currently a 3-point favorite. The over under is currently lined at 44 for the betting public to bet into. College football money line gamblers can make a play on the favored Rutgers Scarlet Knights at –155 with the home underdog Louisville Cardinals bringing back +135 to pull off the home upset win without the points on their side.
When these two Big East conference teams met last season it was Rutgers pounding the Cardinals 63-14 as an 11-½ point home favorite. Rutgers torched the Cardinals defense with 224 yards on the ground and 447 passing yards. Louisville was unable to run the ball with just 48 yards on 31 carries. Rutgers sits at 7-3 on the year with the wins padded by an extremely weak non-conference schedule. The team is coming off a very bad 31-13 road loss to hapless Syracuse. The Rutgers defense allowed over 400 yards to the Orange offense while the Rutgers offense could muster only 26 yards rushing on 27 attempts with only 104 passing yards. That was one of the head scratchers this year from college football. Scarlet Knights Tom Savage is hitting on 54% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The young signal caller had a rough day last week hitting on just 7 of 17 passes with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions in defeat. Junior running back Joe Martinek is the leading rusher for the team with a 5.0 yards a carry average on the year. Defensively the Scarlet Knights allow just 316 yards per game and rank 2nd in the Big East in total defense. It was another disappointing season for Louisville sitting at 4-7 on the season and disqualified from a bowl berth. It is now the third straight season for Louisville to miss a bowl game and head coach Steve Kragthorpe could be coaching his last game at the program. In three seasons at Louisville he has failed to lead the team to a bowl. The team really struggles for points as the team averages just 18 ½ points per game. Junior quarterback Adam Froman is hitting on just 60% of his passes with only 5 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions. The Cardinals dual backs generate a combined 3.7 yards a carry. The team is coming off a 34-22 loss at South Florida last week. South Florida moved the ball at will on the Cardinals with over 500 offensive yards. Louisville is 1-1 at home versus Big 10 conference opponents this season with a 35-10 loss to Pittsburgh and just a 10-9 victory over Syracuse. Louisville is 7th in the Big East in total defense allowing 368 yards per game. An issue in this game will be run defense when facing Rutgers and the Cardinals do a poor job ranking 8th and last in the Big East conference in rush defense allowing 158 yards per game.
