The cross-town rivalry last season went to the USC Trojans 28-7 as a 35-point favorite. The Bruins offense was non-exitant with just 47 yards rushing on 21 carries and only 110 yards through the air. USC is 7-3 this season and coming off a bye week. Prior to the bye the Trojans were extremely embarrassed by the Stanford Cardinal losing 55-21. The Trojans allowed Stanford to gain 325 yards on the ground and 144 through the air in defeat. The top of the Pac 10 has torched the Trojans defense as USC allowed 482 yards to Oregon St and 613 to Oregon. USC has fallen to the ranks of average in the Pac 10 on defense ranking 6th in conference. USC Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley is hitting on only 57% of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Barkley threw 3 interceptions last week in defeat. One of the major issues for Matt Barkley has been his inability to sustain drives when leading the offense. USC ranks an incredible 8th in the Pac 10 on third down conversions converting on just 34.1%. In the Pac 10 with so many skilled offensive players you must sustain drives or your defense will pay the price by staying on the field way too long. Junior running back Joe McKnight is the leading ball carrier averaging 6.7 yards a carry on the year. McKnight had a good game against Stanford with 142 yards on the ground on 16 carries. The UCLA Bruins are coming off a 23-13 win against the Arizona St Sun Devils last week to become bowl eligible. The Bruins only won by 10 points despite a +6 turnover margin. The Bruins have won three straight and have picked up their offense. Bruins freshman quarterback Kevin Prince struggled against the good Sun Devils defense last week hitting on just 48% of his passes without a touchdown pass and no interceptions. The signal caller is hitting on just 57% of his passes with 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The Bruins have been splitting carries with numerous running backs this season and last week it was Bruins running back Chane Moline rushing 25 times for 84 yards against a stout Sun Devils run defense. Defensively the Bruins give up only 20.6 points per game and are pretty good against the pass on the season. UCLA is 2nd in the PAC 10 in pass defense allowing just 192 yards through the air on the season. College football pundits have pegged the Bruins in the New Mexico Bowl and the Trojans in the Holiday Bowl.
