When these two SEC conference rivals met last year it was Arkansas pulling out an exciting 31-30 victory over the Tigers as a 7-point home underdog. Arkansas was able to move the ball successfully through the air against LSU with 280 passing yards in victory. It was another high scoring game when these teams met in 2007 at LSU with the Razorbacks pulling out a 50-48 victory. Arkansas sits at 7-4 on the season and is winners of 4 straight games. The Razorbacks have produced points in this streak by averaging 48 ½ points per game. The sophomore quarterback Ryan Mallet is hitting on 58% of his passes with 28 touchdown passes and 6 interceptions. He has passed for over 300 yards over his past three games with 10 touchdown passes. Sophomore running back Dennis Johnson has had increased carries over his past two games with 15 rushing attempts for 108 yards. Arkansas issues on the season have been their defense. The team allows 25 points per game on the season. They sit last in the SEC conference in defense allowing 408 yards per game on the season. College football pundits have projected the Razorbacks into the Independence Bowl and LSU into the Cotton Bowl. So a victory over LSU could better their bowl game this season. LSU sits at 8-3 on the season and coming off a huge 25-23 road loss at Mississippi. The loss was critical as LSU is nearly eliminated from BCS bowl consideration. With USC and Oklahoma down this season a 2-loss LSU Tigers team had a shot of snatching a BCS bowl bid. With a win LSU most likely would be the best of the 3 loss teams and barring some huge upsets with the 2 loss teams and Boise St and TCU losing a game they would earn a BCS Bowl bid. Starting Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson could only hit on 19 of 37 for 250 yards two touchdowns and an interception. Jordan Jefferson has struggled leading the team and against SEC conference opponents has only been able to covert 47% of LSU trips into the end zone with touchdowns, which ranks 7th in the SEC conference. With running back Charles Scott out for the year it has been Keiland Williams seeing more carries. Williams had only 40 yards on 11 rushing attempts last week. Against Arkansas the LSU Tigers will need to be good in pass defense and the team is 8th in the SEC allowing 189 yards through the air and only 11 touchdown passes this season.
