The Nevada Wolf Pack will face on the road the Boise St Broncos in a WAC conference college football game on Friday night. Kick off time is set for 10:00PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN2. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the Boise St Broncos were opened as a 10-½ point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has been all Boise St money, as the Broncos are currently a 14-point favorite.
When these teams from the WAC conference met last season it was Boise St pulling out a 41-34 victory at Nevada as a 6-½ point road favorite. Boise St was able to exploit the Nevada Wolf Pack pass defense with 414 passing yards. Boise St was able to defeat Nevada despite 4 turnovers in the game to none for the Wolf Pack. Boise St is 11-0 and with wins against Nevada this week and New Mexico St a week later they could be looking at an at large bid into a BCS bowl. The Broncos are coming off a 53-21 road win at Utah St a week ago. Prior to that they put up 65 on Idaho. The Broncos are trying to earn style points for the BCS pollsters in hopes of an at large bid. Boise St quarterback Kellen Moore will look to exploit this poor Nevada pass defense and is hitting on 66% of his passes with 33 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Moore has thrown just 1 interception against WAC opponents this season. The Broncos offense is balanced averaging 191 yards rushing and 264 yards through the air and they put up 44 points per game. Junior running back Jeremy Avery is the Broncos leading ball carrier averaging 6 yards a carry on the season. Boise St will need to be good against the run when facing Nevada and the team is second in the WAC conference allowing just 115 yards rushing per game and just 3.8 yards a carry average. Nevada since opening the season 0-3 has put together 8 straight wins and are a perfect 7-0 against WAC opponents. Nevada has piled on the points against a historically very weak WAC opponents defenses and also had a huge game rushing the football against a very bad run defense in UNLV. Now Nevada faces their best defensive team of the season. Nevada has only averaged 11 ½ points a game against their two BCS conference opponents and scored just 20 points at a very bad Mountain West team in Colorado St this season. Junior quarterback Colin Kaepernick is hitting on 60% of his passes with 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Kaepernick is a running threat and has rushed for 1129 yards on 132 carries for 8.6 yards a carry average. Nevada’s twin backs have put up huge numbers as Vai Taua averages 8.0 yards a carry and Luke Lippencott 7.7 this season. Before getting all giddy over Nevada remember how bad the opposing defenses they are rushing against and the gaping holes you often find in the run game against bad WAC defenses which you do not find against BCS conference defenses or against good non BCS conference defenses. Kaepernick is not very muscular and is apt to go to the ground on first contact. He has had open space to run through much of the season against the horrible defenses he has faced. Nevada is terrible on defense and their pass defense is a huge concern. Nevada is last in the WAC against the pass allowing 286 yards a game and 26 touchdown passes against. The Wolf Pack allows 8.8 yards a passing attempt this season. Nevada is the second worst passing defense in the entire nation that is 119th out of 120 teams.
