The Nebraska Cornhuskers will hit the road in Big 12 conference play when they host the Colorado Buffaloes in a college football game on Friday afternoon. Kick off time is scheduled for 3:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ABC. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this contest and the Nebraska Cornhuskers opened as an 8-point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the road favorite, as the Nebraska Cornhuskers are currently a 10-point favorite.
When these two Big 12 conference foes met it was Nebraska beating Colorado in a high scoring game 40-31 as an 18-½ point favorite. Nebraska was able to gain 407 yards on the Buffaloes defense. Colorado couldn’t run on the Cornhuskers with just 42 yards on 22 carries and lost the turnover battle with a –2 margin on the game. Nebraska enters this game with an 8-3 record and has clinched a spot in the Big 12 conference championship game against Texas next week. With three losses on the season the Cornhuskers only shot at a BCS bowl game is by beating Texas so this game with Colorado becomes meaningless in the BCS bowl picture. The Cornhuskers are coming off a 17-3 victory last week against the Kansas St Wildcats. Nebraska was outstanding in defense and especially against the pass allowing just 12 of 33 completions for 153 yards. Nebraska junior quarterback Zac Lee has battled accuracy issues all season and hits on 60% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Lee performs best when he is asked to throw the football less than 20 times a game. Roy Helu Jr. is the leading ball carrier for the Cornhuskers and averages 5.5 yards a carry on the season. With Lee’s problems Helu Jr. has seen more carries as he has averaged 27 rushing attempts over his past two games. Nebraska has an outstanding defense allowing just 10 points per game. The Cornhuskers are 2nd in the Big 12 conference allowing just 280 yards a game. Colorado is having yet another miserable season sitting at 3-8. Head coach Dan Hawkins is most certainly on his way out with a poor record at Colorado. He has since made concessions about regretting recruiting his son to the program and naming him as the starting quarterback. Cody Hawkins saw some action last week but has only completed half of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on the season. Hanson has got the bulk work late in the season and is hitting on 57% of his passes with 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The Buffaloes has played much better with Hanson running the offense. Defensively the Buffaloes are very bad allowing 29 points per game. Colorado will need to be good in stopping the run and they are not allowing 162 yards a game and 4.2 yards a carry ranking 10th in the Big 12 conference.
