The San Francisco 49ers survived a 10-6 victory over the Chicago Bears on a Thursday Night football game over a week ago. The 49ers benefited from five Chicago Bears turnovers in victory. The 49ers allowed Jay Cutler and the Bears to pass for 307 yards. The 49ers offense was inept against Chicago with just 110 yards rushing and 106 through the air. Five year pro Alex Smith hit on 69% of his passes last week but his 16 completions went for just 118 yards. Smith has thrown 4 interceptions the past two weeks. Running back Frank Gore had his most yardage since returning to the lineup with 104 yards against the Bears. Gore’s 25 carries against Chicago was his most of the season. San Francisco is 29th in the NFL in pass defense allowing their opponents 248 passing yards per game which is a concern facing Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. Green Bay sits at 5-4 this season and in need of a win to keep pace in the wildcard hunt. The Packers are coming off an impressive 17-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys as their secondary came up big against the Cowboys passing game. The Packers allowed just 217 passing yards to Dallas and only 61 on the ground. The Packers will need to be good against the run against the San Francisco 49ers and they are as only 1 team has rushed for 100 yards or more on the Packers in their past 6 games. Starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hitting on 64% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions this season. The big negative for the Packers in this game is the fact that Rodgers has been sacked 41 times on the season. The 49ers are young on defense and will be well rested and their pass rush could be the difference in this game. Third year running back Ryan Grant has been very inconsistent this season and sits with a 4.2 yards a carry average this season. The Packers defense has only allowed their opponents 18 points per game average on their home turf.
