The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to bounce back when they face the Connecticut Huskies in a college football game on Saturday afternoon. Kick off time is scheduled for 3:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this contest and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish has opened as a 7-½ point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the road underdog from the Big East conference, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is currently a 6-point favorite. The over under is currently lined at 57 for the betting public to play into. This is the first ever meeting between the Connecticut Huskies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Connecticut is sitting at 4-5 and losers of three straight close losses. The team must win two more games if they are to qualify for a bowl game this season. The Huskies are coming off a 47-45 road loss last week at Cincinnati with 462 yards of offense but allowing 711 yards to the Bearcats offense. Connecticut gave up 480 passing yards last week and that could be a huge issue with Jimmy Clausen at quarterback for the Irish. Junior quarterback Zach Frazier is hitting on just 51% of his passes with 4 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Frazer is under center as starter Cody Endres was lost with a season ending injury. Frazier is ironically starting against his former team as the junior quarterback spent his first year of eligibility with Notre Dame. Connecticut has a good running back dual splitting carries as Jordan Todman averages 5.2 yards a carry and Andre Dixon 4.6. The Huskies will need to be better than last week in defending the pass and the team gives up an average of 232 yards per game and sitting at 7th in the Big East conference. Notre Dame is coming off their second straight loss in dropping a 27-22 decision against Pittsburgh. Notre Dame once against got behind by margin early in their contest and with a late rally made the game a bit more interesting. It seems like Jimmy Clausen gets better later in games when teams are fatigued. The Irish quarterback is hitting on 67% of his passes for 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. With the Irish needing 4th quarter points the junior quarterback has had to throw quite a bit this season. Junior running back Armando Allen returned to the Irish lineup last week and gained 77 yards on 14 carries last week Allen averages 5.5 yards a carry this season. If the Irish were more balanced on offense and ran more they would be able to conserve their very weak defense. Notre Dame allows 390 yards a game and 23 points to their opponents. Notre Dame’s last two foes were able to gain over 400 yards of offense against them with both games ending up as Fighting Irish defeats. Notre Dame will need to defend the dual running backs of the Huskies and Notre Dame allows 153 yards rushing this season and a high 4.6 yards per rush against average. Connecticut could do damage on the ground and keep Clausen on the sidelines.
