When these two Pac 10 foes met on last season it was Oregon winning a very high scoring game 55-45 at home as a 6 point favorite. Both teams gobbled up 200 yards rushing and 300 yards through the pass. Oregon won the turnover battle in that one with +2 margin in the game. There is a lot at stake in this game for both teams. Oregon sits at 6-1 in Pac 10 play and in need to win out to make the Rose Bowl. Arizona sits at 4-2 in Pac 10 play but if they close the season with 3 straight wins in the Pac 10 to finish at 7-2 in conference they would qualify for the Rose Bowl. The Wildcats have victories against Oregon St, Stanford and Oregon should they win on Saturday giving them the tiebreaker advantage if they all finish 7-2 in Pac 10 play. After getting pounded by Stanford it was Oregon bouncing back with a 44-21 home victory against the Arizona St Sun Devils. The team was able to amass 388 yards on the Pac 10’s leading defense last week with 268 coming on the ground. Starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was only 50% passing with two touchdowns and 1 interception. Masoli was good on the ground with 67 yards rushing in 7 attempts in victory. Masoli has hit on 59% of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Freshman running back LaMichael James has averaged 7.0 yards a carry this season on 171 rushing attempts. The running back has rushed for over 125 yards in his past 5 games. Oregon has scored 42 or more points on their opponents in their past 6 games with Jeremiah Masoli as a starter. In the teams 24-10 win at UCLA it was Nate Costa getting the start for an injured Masoli. On defense the team allows 21 points per game and are 3rd in the Pac 10 in defense allowing 312 yards and 4.3 yards per play. Arizona enters this game off a 24-16 loss at California last week as a 2-½ point underdog. The team was only able to rush for 73 yards on the ground and 201 through the air. Junior running back Nic Grigsby is averaging just 7.5 yards a carry but was hampered by a bad shoulder and did not have a rushing carry last week. Grigsby has only 22 carries over his past 5 games. Sophomore running back Keola Antolin has seen much of the workload with a 4.9 yards a carry average this season with 80 carries. Freshman quarterback Nick Foles has completed 69.7% of his passes this season with 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Foles has not been able to achieve those numbers recently and hit on 61% of his passes last week. The Wildcats will need to be extremely good in defending the run and the team is #3 in the Pac 10 allowing 104 yards on the ground with 3.6 yards a carry average.
