At 6-2 this season the Arizona Wildcats are bowl eligible in back to back years for head coach Mike Stoops who has positioned this Arizona Wildcats into a consistent winning program. With a Pac 10 conference record of 4-1 this season the Arizona Wildcats control their own destiny in the Rose Bowl race. But the schedule now gets very difficult with Cal, Oregon, Arizona St and USC in 4 straight weeks to close out the season. The Wildcats are getting good production from freshman starting quarterback Nick Foles who has hit on 71% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. In his 5 starts in Pac 10 play Foles has passed for no less than 63% of is passes this season. Junior running back Nic Grigsby is averaging 7.5 yards a carry this season but is questionable as he recovers from a shoulder injury. Sophomore running back Keola Antolin in relief has averaged 5.2 yards a carry on the season. Arizona’s offense is explosive averaging 448 offensive yardage a game and 32 points. Arizona is the number two defense in the Pac 10 giving up an average of just 298 yards per game. Cal is 6-3 this season and is bowl eligible but is 3-3 in conference this season. The team is coming off a bad 31-14 loss at home to Oregon St last week. Cal has been pounded this season by Oregon, USC and Oregon St. Teams have figured out how to defend Cal and the formula is to stack their line and force inaccurate quarterback Kevin Riley to beat them. Riley has not been accurate throwing vertical and that weakness was exposed in Oregon’s 42-3 win at Cal back on September 26th. The Golden Bears will be without running back Jahvid Best who is out after suffering a concussion last week. Sophomore running back Shane Vereen will be the lead runner in Best’s absence. Vereen is averaging 5.1 yards a carry in 51 carries this season. Arizona’s good passing offense will test the poor secondary from Cal on Saturday night. Cal allows 275 yards per game through the air and ranks 9th in the Pac 10.
