These two teams met last year and it was Cincinnati squeaking out a 26-23 victory as a 7-point underdog on the road to West Virginia. Cincinnati was only able to generate 12 first downs in the game but benefited from two Mountaineers turnovers. The Bearcats were challenged last week and beat Connecticut 47-45 last week as a 16-point favorite in the game. Connecticut was able to run for 201 yards and pass for 261 yards on the Bearcats defense. Backup quarterback Zach Collaros has been announced as the starting quarterback with Tony Pike seeing some action in the game for Cincinnati. It may be hard for Pike who is returning from injury to get his job back as Collaros had hit on 76% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and 1 interception. Last week against Connecticut Collaros hit on 29 of 37 for 480 yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions in victory. Collaros is a sophomore quarterback who relieved an injured Tony Pike four games back on October 15th at South Florida. The offense has been explosive for Cincinnati averaging 158 yards rushing and 324 yards passing for 482 yards total. The team averages 40 points per game. Cincinnati is number four in the Big East conference giving up an average of 329 yards per game and 4.7 yards per play against average. West Virginia comes into this game off a 17-9 win at home to a struggling Louisville Cardinals team. They have not generated over 20 points in their past two games. Superstar running back for the Mountaineers Noel Devine has an ankle sprain and is a question mark for this game with the Bearcats. Devine has been a solid running threat this season with 1010 yards on 167 rushing attempts for a 6.0 yards a carry average. Devine has been a workhorse in the Mountaineer backfield with no other running back with more than 28 carries on the season. Starting quarterback Jarrett Brown is a run threat with 79 carries and a 4.2 yards a carry average. On the passing side the senior quarterback’s numbers has plummeted as he has not surpassed 59% passing accuracy over his past 4 games with just 2 touchdown passes thrown. On the defensive side of the ball the Mountaineers in their 3 road games this season has given up an average of 28 points a game. The Mountaineers passing defense will be tested and the unit is ranked #6 in the Big East giving up 220 yards passing a game and have given up 15 touchdown passes in their 9 games this season.
