The New York Jets fresh off their bye week will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in an NFL football game on Sunday afternoon. Kick off time in New York is scheduled for 1PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by CBS. The LVSC NFL odds makers have set the opening line in this game and the New York Jets opened as a 6 point favorite with the over under coming in at 42 ½. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the favorite, as the New York Jets are currently a 7-point favorite. The total has seen early action towards the under as the over under is now lined at 40. NFL money line gamblers can make a play on the favored New York Jets at –310 with the road underdog Jacksonville Jaguars returning +260 to pull off the road upset victory without the points.
The Jets are at 4-4 on the year and coming off their bye week. The week prior the team lost to the Miami Dolphins 30-25 in what was a special teams meltdown as the Dolphins returned two kick offs for a touchdown. Miami also got a touchdown off a fumble recovery return. So the Jets suffered another bad loss despite out gaining Miami 378 yards to 104. Rookie Mark Sanchez hits the halfway mark of the season hitting on just 53% of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Sanchez is coming off a 20 of 35 passing performance for 265 yards two touchdowns and no interception against the Dolphins. Sanchez will be passing against a Jaguars defense that allows opposing quarterbacks to connect on 68.6% of their passes which ranks 30th in the NFL. Jets running back Leon Washington is out for year with a broken leg so getting the bulk of the carries will be 10 year pro Thomas Jones. Jones is averaging 4.7 yards a carry on the season with 7 rushing touchdowns. The Jets run the ball very well on the season averaging a league best 177 yards per game. The Jets have gotten good production from their defense as the team gives up just 16.8 points per game and just 273 yards per game. Jacksonville is also 4-4 on the season after their 24-21 win at home to Kansas City. Jags quarterback David Garrard is coming off a nice performance last week where he hit on 18 of 27 passes for 264 yards passing. Running back Maurice Jones Drew is having a good season with a 5.1 yard a carry average and 11 rushing touchdowns. But the glaring weakness on the Jaguars has been their defense that surrenders 362 yards per game and nearly 25 points a game. The big question here is will the Jets allow rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez to pass a bit more to exploit this leaky Jaguars secondary.
