The New Orleans Saints will have short rest in this game after beating the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football last week 35-27. The Saints have been playing very sloppily of late despite two straight wins. The team has committed 8 turnovers total over the past two games with 4 turnovers at Miami two weeks ago and 4 miscues last week to Atlanta. Despite the mistakes the team sits at 7-0 on the season. Quarterback Drew Brees is putting up Pro Bowl numbers once again as the veteran Saints quarterback has passed for 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on the season. The Saints running game has been outstanding as the team averages 154 yards on the ground and led by Pierre Thomas who has averaged 5.8 yards a carry in 70 rushing attempts. With such an explosive offense the New Orleans Saints don’t need to be a great defense but just an average one to succeed. The Saints are just that, an average defense allowing 22 points per game but the opponents yardage has began to creep up. Atlanta put up 442 yards on the Saints last week in putting up 38 points. The week before it was Miami storming out with 34 points scored on the Saints. Carolina Panthers are coming off an upset 34-21 win at Arizona last week. The team forced 6 Arizona Cardinals turnovers in the game as Kurt Warner threw 5 interceptions. The team did a good job on the ground last week rushing for 270 yards last week. Running back DeAngelo Williams rushed for 158 yards in victory last week. Williams is averaging 4.8 yards per carry on the season. The Panthers starting quarterback Jake Delhomme only attempted 14 passes last week with a touchdown and no interceptions. Delhomme has been a turnover prone quarterback this season with already 13 on the season. The Saints passing attack will go against a very good Panthers pass defense that allows just 160 passing yards per game. The Panthers do not give up big plays in the passing game to their opponents as Carolina’s opponents only average 8.9 yards per completion.
