When Virginia Cavaliers and Miami Florida Hurricanes met last year in Virginia it was the Hurricanes winning 24-17 as a 1-point favorite. Miami moved the ball very effectively against the Cavaliers with 197 rushing yards and 251 through the air. Miami is 6-2 on the year and is coming off a come from behind 28-27 win at Wake Forest last week in a game where they had to survive a missed field goal as time expired by the Demon Deacons. Miami has not played well in their past 3 ACC conference games with losses at Virginia Tech 31-7 and home to Clemson 40-37 prior to their coin flip victory at Wake Forest. The Hurricanes secondary has been torched the past two weeks allowing 326 passing yards to Clemson and 408 last week to Wake Forest. Sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris has hit on 62% of his passes this season with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Harris has been sloppy in his past two games with 4 interceptions. The Hurricanes are getting good production from three running backs as Javarris James averages 5.4 yards a carry, Graig Cooper 4.9 yards a carry and Damien Berry 7.0 yards a carry running the football. The Hurricanes defense has given up 27 or more points in 4 of their 5 conference games this season. Virginia is 3-5 on the season and in desperate need of 3 more wins to become bowl eligible. The Cavaliers have lost 2 straight games and are struggling for points with just 26 points scored combined in these losses to Duke and Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers have not run a lick over the course of their three games and haven’t passed much better. Virginia’s starting quarterback Jameel Sewell is doubtful for the game after injury his chest last week against Duke. His backup is junior Marc Verica who has hit on just 50% of his passes with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Verica played last year and was plagued with mistakes with 8 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Defensively the Cavaliers allow just 21.8 points per game and have defended the pass well ranking 4th in the ACC conference allowing just 175 yards through the air this season and only 4 touchdown passes have been thrown against their defense.
