In their meeting last season the Houston Cougars pounded Tulsa 70-30 as a 3-½ point favorite. Houston moved the ball very effectively on the Golden Hurricane for 641 total offensive yards. Tulsa enters this game just 4-4 on the season and losers of two straight games. The Tulsa once high flying offense has skidded to the ground in recent weeks as the team has not put up more than 27 points against any division 1 opponent since way back in week two when they put up 44 on New Mexico. Tulsa is coming off a bad 27-13 home loss against SMU last week. The Golden Hurricane quarterbacking has been very poor of late. Sophomore first year starter G.J. Kinne has been no accurate than 51% in his past three games which has resulted in just 3 touchdown passes. Junior back up quarterback Jacob Bower saw action in relief of Kinne last week who suffered a concussion. Bower would only complete 9 of 22 passes against SMU last week with just 1 touchdown and no interception in a 27-13 defeat. Kinne has been listed a probable in this key Conference USA battle with Houston. Tulsa has played much better defensively on the season limiting teams to just 20.5 points per game against their defense. The Golden Hurricane ranks 2nd in Conference USA in defense allowing just 343 yards per game. Houston is 7-1 on the season and is an explosive offense averaging 41.6 points per game and 563 yards of offense. Junior quarterback Case Keenum has had a hot hand all season with a completion percentage of 71.6% on the year with 25 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions. Keenum is coming off a game last week home to Southern Mississippi where he hit on 80% of his passes with 5 touchdown passes and 559 yards passing. Houston has not been good on defense on the season and especially on the road where they give up an average of 461 total yards and 33 points to their opponents. In Houston’s home victory against Southern Mississippi the Golden Eagles scored 43 points on the Cougars defense.
