Colonel John is ridden by the hot jock at Santa Anita Garrett Gomez and trained by Eoin Harty. The 4-year-old colt has 3 wins in 6 trips on the Santa Anita synthetic track surface. I like the fact he has been lightly raced with only 3 races in the 2009 season. He was a good second in the Goodwood Grade 1 stake race over the Santa Anita race track on October 1st in a race that was run at a 1 1/8th mile. The Breeders Cup Classic is run at a 1-¼ mile on the main track. He posted a good work on November 2nd leading up to this race. We get a good price on Colonel John at a track he likes, he has posted a good Brisnet speed number in his prep and he is running only his fourth race in 2009. Take him with a nice 12-1 odds on the morning line.
