The Navy Midshipmen will look to bounce back when they face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a college football game on Saturday afternoon. Kick off time at Notre Dame is scheduled for 2:30PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by NBC. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening point spread in this game and the home team Notre Dame Fighting Irish has opened as an 11 point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the underdog Navy Midshipmen, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is currently a 10-point favorite. In last years meeting between Notre Dame and Navy the Fighting Irish was able to avenge a loss in 2007 by beating the Midshipmen 27-21. Notre Dame’s defense was able to limit Navy to just 178 rushing yards and 64 yards through the air. Notre Dame was able to win despite 5 Irish turnovers. Navy is coming off a loss last week at home to Temple falling 27-24. Navy was without their starting quarterback Ricky Dobbs for most of the Temple game as he was sidelined with an injury. Dobbs is scheduled to return to the lineup in this game. Dobbs only makes an average of 9 passes a game but is more experienced to run the option run attack for Navy. Dobbs has rushed 170 times this season with 3.4 yards per carry average and 16 of Navy’s 30 rushing touchdowns. Running back Vince Murray has 135 carries for 4.7 yards per carry average. Navy has rushed 545 times this season and only passed 71. Defensively the Midshipmen give up 21.4 points per game on the season. Their passing defense will be tested against Jimmy Clausen’s led passing attack from the Irish. Navy allows an average of 260 yards through the air and 7.9 yards per passing attempt against their defense. Notre Dame is 6-2 on the season and hoping to close out at 10-2 to hopefully get an at large bid in a BCS Bowl game. After being involved in several close games the Fighting Irish was able to win 40-14 last week on a neutral field against hapless Washington St. Starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen has hit on 66% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions on the season. Clausen has been very accurate with 66.7% or better passing accuracy in 3 of his past 4 games. Notre Dame will have to contain the Navy’s triple option run game and the team only allows 123 yards per game on the ground and just 4.0 yards per rush average against their defense.
