The Florida St Seminoles will travel in ACC conference play when they meet the Clemson Tigers in a college football game in prime time on Saturday night. Kick off time in Clemson is scheduled for 7:45PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN. After a turbulent season the Florida St long time defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews announced his retirement from the program this week heading into the Seminoles game with Clemson. Florida St offensively is led by junior quarterback Christian Ponder who is hitting on 69% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Ponder is coming off a two interception game last week against NC State. On the ground Jermaine Thomas leads Florida St with a 5.5 yards per carry average in 69 rushing attempts. Florida St averages 31.8 points per game on the season. Clemson sits at 5-3 this season and is a very inconsistent program. These Tigers can be a difficult team to figure out. They often lose when you expect them to win and win when you expect them to lose. Senior running back C.J. Spiller is the Tigers leading ball carrier with 113 carries and 5.1 yards per rush average. His last two efforts against division 1 programs were excellent with 106 yards on 9 carries against Wake Forest and 14 carries for 81 carries at Miami two weeks ago. The Achilles heel for the program is starting quarterback Kyle Parker who can only complete 52% of his passes. Parker is a freshman quarterback who has thrown 10 touchdown passes in 8 games with 8 interceptions. A troubling sign is the fact that Parker could only complete 7 of 16 passes against Coastal Carolina last week. The quarterback has had only 1 game all season with passing accuracy over 60% and that performance came against Miami where he was 25 of 37. Defensively the Tigers have held opponents to just 16 ½ points per game and only 8.2 points per game in their 5 home games this season. Clemson’s passing defense will be tested against Florida St but the Tigers are #1 in the ACC in pass defense only allowing 146 yards through the air this season with just 9 touchdown passes thrown against their defense.
