The USC Trojans will look to bounce back in the win column when they travel to the desert to face the Arizona St Sun Devils in a Pac 10 conference game on Saturday night. Kick off time in Tempe Arizona is scheduled for 8PM Eastern Time with regional television coverage provided by ABC. The LVSC college football odds makers have set the opening line in this college football game and the USC Trojans opened as a 14-point favorite. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the home underdog Arizona St Sun Devils, as the USC Trojans are currently a 10-point favorite. The over under is currently lined at 45 ½ for the college football betting public to play into. College football money line players who would like to make a play on the USC Trojans will find the favorite lined at –650 with the home underdog Arizona St Sun Devils returning +450 to pull off the home upset victory.
When the two teams met last season the Trojans beat Arizona St 28-0 as a 27-½ point favorite. USC was able to move the ball downfield but it was a sloppy win as the team committed 5 turnovers. USC suffered their second loss of the season and more importantly the second loss in Pac 10 play nearly eliminating the Trojans from the Rose Bowl race as they fall a full 2 games behind the Oregon Ducks in the loss column. USC has collapsed on defense the past three weeks. The team allowed 363 yards to Notre Dame, 452 yards to Oregon St two weeks ago and an incredible 613 yards to Oregon in a 47-20 loss last week to the Ducks. USC faced three pretty good quarterbacks during that 3 game stretch. Unfortunately for Arizona St, starting quarterback Danny Sullivan doesn’t quite fit that category. Danny Sullivan only hits on 54% of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions and is a pocket passer who is not a threat to run the football. There have been some rumbling around Arizona St to bench Sullivan. The Sun Devils are coming off two straight losses 33-14 at Stanford two weeks ago and last week at home to Cal 23-21. In the loss last week to Cal, Sullivan threw two picks. Running back Dimitri Nance has rushed 110 carries for only 4.3 yards per carry average. The senior running back has a shoulder ailment that forced the player to miss the second half of the Cal game. Arizona St has a good rushing defense and is #1 in the Pac 10 allowing just 80 yards per game and 2.5 yards per rush against average. USC freshman quarterback Matt Barkley suffered his first loss as a starter. He hit on only 21 of 38 for 187 yards two touchdown passes and 1 interception. The freshman did not make plays when it mattered as the Trojans were just 4 of 14 on third downs. That’s the area that Barkley has failed as the starting quarterback for USC. He cannot make plays on third down as the team has fallen all the way down to 7th in the Pac 10 with just a 34.7% conversion rate. Barkley has passed for 9 touchdowns on 6 interceptions despite an outstanding running game behind him that posts 5.4 yards per carry average.
